Planing began well before March 2003. An increase in bombing began months before March. The question is, when did someone in Washington make the determination that ew were going to war with Iraq. IMHO 9/11 was all the excuse someone needed to do the deed. Taking care of the problem in Afghanistan had to take priority of course. Once that was done the administration put considerable effort into making a case for invading Iraq. War with the leaders of Afghanistan effectively began the moment the first plane hit a tower and because of people in our then administration war with Iraq would inevitably follow that.

My point is that while we nurse our grief anf anger over what happened on 9/11/2001 we also need to remember what some people did with those feelings, twisting them and using them to conduct their own vendetta.

If we threw a hissy fit because 3000 people died then what are the implications of 100,000 dead Iraqis for Iraq?

What kind of horrible person starts a memorial thread using the word "piss"?

3000 people died on 9/11. They died because they were Americans--people who lived in a free and democratic society. The group responsible, its sympathisers, and those who would see America fall for much the same reasons are still at large today. Al Qaeda, Iran, Syria, Hezballah, the Muslim Brotherhood and its equivalents in Gaza, Jordan and Syria--the Middle East is filled with nations and groups who celebrated these attacks and would celebrate them again.

The murder of Bin Laden has created an ideal litmus test for anti-American groups and activities in the region. All of the groups I named above have aligned themselves with the "martyr" Bin Laden. They do so not because the United States is the author of the Middle East's misfortunes. The Middle East's misfortunes are a product of dictatorship, socialism and corruption. They do so because they genuinely believe wish to create an ideal world--an Islamic republic or caliphate, a dicatorship really, where Islam is imposed upon society. And they believe the United Stands in the way. And they are willing to do anything--including mass murder--to achieve their aims. That is the lesson of 9/11.

[edit: correction--Syria's Alawite regime is allied with groups like Hezballah and Iran basically because it wants to stay in power in Syria as Iran and Hezballah prop up their rule there--now directly, if reports of their fighters participating in suppressing the Syrian revolt are true]

You're a moron. Absolutely no part of that is correct.

No, I just can't believe how ridiculously stupid you are. You claim to be well-read and post something like that. Unbelievable.

Sorry if I made a mistake DaShi, I got confused. I didn't know about the other "memorial" thread until a few moments ago. I just woke up. I give my condolences to the families to the 100,000+ Iraqis and goodness knows how many Afghanis have been killed in the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq since the 9/11 attacks. As the old sayings go "two wrongs don't make a right".

Here's the Muslim Brotherhood for starters: http://www.theatlantic.com/internati...-laden/238218/

And Hamas (note the usage "holy warrior" Bin Laden):http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...063407,00.html

Iran questions whether the killing even occurred: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/may...-iran-20110503
"Obama and the Democrats are busy with their election campaigns, so it was apparently the best time to announce the killing of Bin Laden," a news reader on state television said.
--and accuses the US of working with him in the same breath:
So to be more accurate, Iran viewed Bin Laden as useful, and views his death as an inconvenient victory for the United States. Iran's proxy, Hezballah issued no public statement. But we know they (and Iran) trained Al Qaeda forces in the 1990's: http://www.cfr.org/terrorist-organiz...ionship/p11275

More recently Hezballah was caught smuggling weapons in the United States: http://www.nowlebanon.com/NewsArchiv...aspx?ID=296046

And who could forget--Syria uses Al Qaeda insurgents to attack Americans in Iraq. http://www.longwarjournal.org/archiv...ria_becomi.php

So direct condemnation of Bin Laden's murder came from the MB and Hamas. Iran, Syria and Al Qaeda were happy to (at various times) deny his existence, blame the attacks on Americans, and cooperate with him to achieve mutual objectives.

These groups declare themselves to be America's enemies. Ignore them at your peril.
