The really hilarious thing is that Steven Colbert of Comedy Central ran a series of parody ads in Iowa urging people to vote for "Parry" the fictitious candidate for "People for a better America tomorrow, tomorrow". It turns out all of the "Parry" votes were given to "Perry" so Rick Perry's relatively good showing at the straw poll was likely due to Steven Colbert making fun of him and not because the voters actually liked him or supported him.

Perry is just stupid and completely corrupt but he's at least not absolutely ****ing crazy like his lead competitor for the GOP nomination, Michelle Bachman. Just yesterday Bachman claimed she knew a secret way to make gasoline prices go back to $2 a gallon and promised that when she was elected president gas prices would go back to $2 a gallon. No, she would not tell anyone how she would magically do this.



As bad as that claim was it was just an obvious lie instead of the absolutely, lock her in the insane asylum, INSANE nonsense she normally rambles. Things like making sure everyone had access to basic health care was really a secret plot to kill grandparents via "Death panels", or that the President wasn't born in the US and instead he was "a secret Muslim terrorist sleeper agent sent to destroy America", that Christians shouldn't fill out the forms for the US National Census because the President had plans to round up Christians and send them to death camps (yes, she really said that), and recently she also said that it would be a good thing for America to default on it's national debt (she was pushing for the country to default) because that would stop the President's "communist agenda. Ignore that America defaulting (not because it didn't have the money but simply because Republicans thought it was a good idea to crash the economy if they could blame it on Obama) would crash the world economy and cause a second great depression... As long as it hurts Obama then it is a good thing in her deranged mind. She's just a complete escaped from the asylum loony tunes character yet she's one of the front runners for the Republican nomination. Be very afraid.

Oh, I forgot just today she claimed that the Soviet Union was still secretly plotting to destroy America. It's like no one told her the USSR fell apart 20 years ago. She's just a nut ball but that's the kind of insane nonsense which GOP voters like Ben want in their candidate.

As far as I can see, your boy is done for. He just came out with this "Impeaching Obama would be great!" thing trying to get some media attention but he's done.

Now one real way we could lower gas prices is by ending the speculative activities by Wall St which damage the real economy by causing wild swings in commodities like oil futures. Just look at this paper released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (or rather leaked by Congress since the CFTC hide it from the public for three years) which said speculative activities by hedge funds and other investors caused the price of gasoline to go up by up to $1 per gallon higher then it would have been other wise in 2008. Yes, long term even big speculators can't keep prices artificially high but this market distorting activity can cause short term price spikes which damage the REAL economy and allow Wall St speculators to extract still more money out of the real economy in a way which harms the other 300 million odd people in this country. There is a reason such speculative activity was illegal under Carter and why even Reagan and Bush Sr refused to allow that type of casino gambling with something as important to our national economy as the price of gasoline. It's bad for the real economy, it's bad for national employment, it's bad for individual companies who are trying to reasonably forcaste costs, and that's all true even if the bastards at Goldman Sachs like to use it as a way to hold the rest of us hostage. We need to restore the law that you can't speculate on oil futures unless you're prepared to actually take physical delivery of the oil in question, no mini KHs theoretically buying trillions of barrels of oil just to remove supply and spike prices without ever actually taking possession of any of it.
