I'm well aware of the argument that allowing such speculation increases market liquidity and makes it more likely willing sellers will find willing buyers. That's fine and dandy for onions because if onion prices go up 400% over night then the entire economy doesn't crash and millions of people don't see their incomes go down or even get fired from their jobs. That does happen if oil prices shoot up due to speculative activity and that's why such damaging behavior was illegal in the 70's, 80's, and part of the 90's. We need to make it illegal again.

I'm pretty sure speculation reduces volatility:

(Fortune Magazine) -- Before the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission starts scrutinizing the role that speculators may have played in driving up fuel and food prices, investigators may want to take a look at price swings in a commodity not in today's news: onions.
The bulbous root is the only commodity for which futures trading is banned. Back in 1958, onion growers convinced themselves that futures traders (and not the new farms sprouting up in Wisconsin) were responsible for falling onion prices, so they lobbied an up-and-coming Michigan Congressman named Gerald Ford to push through a law banning all futures trading in onions. The law still stands.
And yet even with no traders to blame, the volatility in onion prices makes the swings in oil and corn look tame, reinforcing academics' belief that futures trading diminishes extreme price swings. Since 2006, oil prices have risen 100%, and corn is up 300%. But onion prices soared 400% between October 2006 and April 2007, when weather reduced crops, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, only to crash 96% by March 2008 on overproduction and then rebound 300% by this past April.
The volatility has been so extreme that the son of one of the original onion growers who lobbied Congress for the trading ban now thinks the onion market would operate more smoothly if a futures contract were in place.
"There probably has been more volatility since the ban," says Bob Debruyn of Debruyn Produce, a Michigan-based grower and wholesaler. "I would think that a futures market for onions would make some sense today, even though my father was very much involved in getting rid of it."

Actually it seems it was partially posted in the Washington Times with the full list credited to a blogger cited in the article.

Not surprisingly Daily Kos picked it up as they love anything which makes Republicans look bad but the list does seem to be legit.

The fact that Obama's grades have never come out actually is a bit shady, considering that the grades of every other major presidential candidate in the last three elections have all been leaked.

What is your major malfunction? Do you even know what it means to graduate magna *** laude? Someone can make an argument like DD did and reasonably ask what grade he got on a specific class but if you want to know if the guy got good grades on average then graduating with high honors should answer the question.

You are using Perry's grades as a cudgel, and yet cannot produce Obama's grades for comparison.

Perry is a candidate for the presidency, the election of which is more than a year off. Obama is the sitting president.

You would think that we would know more, not less about Obama. You would think we know what he took, where and when, and how he did on his classes. This is what I want to know.

But that information is not available. Why?

Can you explain to me why we know Perry's grades a week after he announces, but not Obama's grades more than 3 years later?
