  • And Obamacare waivers in 2009? Really?
You admit then that Obama takes good care of his friends. I wonder if it's the low tax corporate jurisdictions where GE pays it's taxes? Gosh, that would be surprising.

Double taxation is the price that corporations pay for the right to be a corporate 'person'. You don't have to incorporate, if you want to avoid paying taxes twice; you can personally employ people and personally collect income, and pay taxes on it once. Odd, isn't it, that almost everyone chooses double taxation
This type of idiotic "argument" tells nobody anything about the merits of corporate and capital gains taxation. It is the same kind of primitive fairness argument that the vast majority of people in this thread have been appealing to, and it is a content-free position.

The essential fact about corporate and investment taxation is that they insert a distortion between consuming now and consuming later. There is, so far as can see, no sensible economic efficiency OR distributional reasoning behind this distortion. Over time, this fact has gradually begun to seep into the minds of politicians the world over, and we are seeing a secular trend downward in both forms of taxation. The US is, if anything, way behind the curve on this (levels of corporate taxation are near the top of the world's, and investment taxes are quite high as well, especially bearing in mind the US' overall low levels of taxation).

Taxation of partnership income is one of the few cases where there is a genuine "break" given to those who choose to consume tomorrow rather than today; this benefit accrues to a fairly small numbe of individuals, some of whom are quite wealthy.

The IRS has no problem with going after Canadian teenagers who have never lived in the USA in their lives but are dual citizens by birth. But American corporations blatantly tax-dodging like GE has done is a-okay. Is that correct?

Friends in high places. I'm glad to see you coming around. Who's going to go after GE? Nobody.

You're too ****ing stupid to live. Truly. Rectify this.

Obama is suddenly to blame for the status quo of US corporate tax policy that has gone on for decades.

            • I really don't know why Ben is whining so much - he are after all working for a corporation that hasn't been taxated as it should have been.

                • Corporate taxation in the US is far more severe when it comes to taxing worldwide income than it is in most countries. The reason so many US companies push the envelope so far is that US corporate ax rates are ridiculously high.

Who came first? The Church was here before the state was here.

How can the state tax that which it never owned?

                    • Next week Ben will argue that Obama is too tough on corporations because of high taxes.

Time for the US to conquer the unpatriotic Christian leaches.

Uhh... what army is the church going to use to stop the government from taxing it?

                            • Sometimes I think that the US tax system was designed to lie on the inefficient frontier: no other tax system can collect less revenue while causing more distortions...
