This makes me really happy. Piracy
Only a few months after declaring the imminent death of the Internet, Prince is out on another crusade against the worldwide web. This time the artist is refusing to record until something can be done to prevent online piracy.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Prince said he would not release a new album until the the practice of music piracy is under control.
“The industry changed,” he said. “We made money [online] before piracy was real crazy. Nobody’s making money now except phone companies, Apple and Google. I’m supposed to go to the White House to talk about copyright protection. It’s like the gold rush out there. Or a carjacking. There’s no boundaries. I’ve been in meetings and they’ll tell you, Prince, you don’t understand, it’s dog-eat-dog out there. So I’ll just hold off on recording.”
Prince went on to express his disgust with digital music, saying that he couldn’t stand the stuff because “you’re getting sound in bits.”
“It affects a different place in your brain,” he said. “When you play it back, you can’t feel anything. We’re analog people, not digital.”
