How the hell am I supposed to know? To be slightly more serious, for me I've only been able to truly realize how much (or how little in one case) I felt for someone once it was over and you start to miss them. That's not to say I didn't feel "in love" which I did almost every time, but I know (now) that initial feeling will pass. There's two girlfriends I miss more than the others. One pretty much walked out on me without much of a word and one that I did a similar thing to. I'm not sure that counts as "love" or as "loss", but I guess my answer should be three.
I don't get the joke about KH not looking in the mirror.
I mean it's a douche thing to say that he's in love every time he looks at himself... that deserves scorn and ridicule.
"Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi
"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi
Huh? I assumed it was "How many times have you been in love?" KH: "(I'm in love) Every time I look in the mirror"
By you (and someone else on page 1) saying basically 'so never?' I assume it's an implication that KH is never in love because he never looks in the mirror. I don't get that joke.
Maybe I'm missing something?

Go away, Spock.

Understanding the subtlety of this usage requires second-order interpretation of the speaker's intentions. This sophisticated understanding can be lacking in some people with certain forms of brain damage, dementia and autism,[11] and this perception has been located by MRI in the right parahippocampal gyrus.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Albert, you are missing so much it is hard to know where to start.

Well I certainly can't lecture him on love, but in terms of everything else in life, well, perhaps starting with the humour department. No one likes a grumpy git.
