  • JM,

    That makes sense.

I don't have a strong opinion on the optimal policy vis-a-vis assistance to NAs, but I think it's a good idea to offer a helping hand for those who *don't* reject the white man's economy/culture. For those who insist on being dead-enders, there's not much you can do.

This is false. As I recall, Rhee actually fired scores of teachers who falsified testing.

      • I googled it some: it appears that a statistical study of erasures on tests *suggests* that there may have been widespread cheating.

I recall when this first arose, Rhee vehemently denied it and claimed it was just mudslinging from her critics.

There's the additional problem that poverty has effects that can last generations. While some may say that black culture is holding them back, this is incorrect. It's a culture of poverty that is holding many back that just happens to be divided by racial lines.

I recall Rhee making a show of it only to be caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

I mentioned this, that the main component is poverty (see my white+hispanic post).

I have seen, being a peripheral member of an african american community in Newport News VA, that some African Americans do feel so screwed by whites that they want to form a separate economy. This is not black culture, but is a movement within black culture.

Obviously it is a huge mistake.

That's because the real overarching issue is that the chronically-underfunded inner city schools are ****holes with overcrowded classrooms and apathetic teachers that make a lot of students apathetic (at best) about being there. When one sees little reason to hope that graduating HS will substantially improve their lives, why should they bother? The notion that they don't strive to succeed because they view that as "white" is risible.
Nearly half statements made in that quote are provably wrong. I have neither the time nor the will left to waste effort online correcting people who are so wilfully ignorant. I'm not going to go all data dump on you but seriously to see a laughable claim like this:

I just have to respond to that one.

Sorry. I don't have time to read all the posts, so I'm more likely to go over ground that's already been covered. I blame Obama.

The Black Panthers proposed the same thing.

Are you saying that the data behind the graph is inaccurate?

Poor Black people do worse than equally poor White people in schools.

Now now before you go out and hurt someone evil oppressive patriarchal racist Taiwanese local or Western tourists, let me just assure that there really is no reason to be so buthurt about this DaShi, there are plenty of noncrimethink explanations for such a scenario. I recommend you go with institutional racism, its impossible to argue against that.
