I always shoot for the moon. 99% is a waste of effort. That one percent makes up for it. But in order to do that you need to be willing and able to cope with continuous failure.

How many ****ing times do I have to make this clear...Originally posted by kittenOFchaos View PostWhat is scheduling like in the Marines?
What I accept when I'm doing something with meaning and value to me does not equal what I accept when I'm doing something I ****ing hate.
It's very simple.
How can people here not relate to the idea that you will take all the **** in the world if you feel it's important and is something you want to do but have no interest in taking that same **** from a job where you're a glorified burger flipper?
Good job? You sure about that? This is the job I had while in college. I actually had more responsibility my last go (since I was in charge of inventory and scheduling) but not the title.Originally posted by Zoetstofzoetje View PostRight now you have a good job with stable money and chance to get higher up. Don't throw it away to chase some dream, unless you're certain that it can materially happen.
I'm flipping burgers and making sandwiches. What the hell good job is this? The other day, I was leaving work in shorts to run home and one of my employees was asking questions, found out I have a degree, and said "You have a degree? What the hell are you doing working here?"
You know when you go to a McDonalds and you see the one guy in there with a different color shirt? That's what the hell I am. Good job? Pfft.
I was just managing 120+ employees a year and a half ago for much more money for Sodexo.
Chase a dream? ALWAYS shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you end up in the stars.

I heard Navy SEAL team six has to work on standby and on nightshifts. Then they get dropped in the middle of nowhere, have to run an errand, and run back to a ship to wash dead people. Sounds sucky sucky to me..

Sounds like someone else higher up the chain has dibs on scheduling, and you fill his gaps. Learn to live with it, or make them respect you more.

So on Monday night, I was supposed to do a 10pm-8am. I got a call to come in at 4pm-2am instead, but then I got sent home an hour early. Had to be back at work at 2pm-12am so I went to sleep after getting home. Then after waking up, told to do 5pm-3am instead then that changed to me being off today but doing 5pm-3am tomorrow when I was supposed to be off.
I'm reminded now how much these ever-changing schedules bothered me. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't 10 hour days plus an hour commute each way.

It's not good fortune. I ****ing hate this ****. And it's cutting into my physical training. And my schedule keeps changing. One minute I'm doing a 10pm-8am then it gets changed to a 4pm-2am at noon.Originally posted by Oerdin View PostSee? When you get a job advancement comes easy! Hell, I still don't know why I got half the promotions I got but just accept them and do not question good fortune to closely.
I can't organize the real important thing around this schedule... and I don't want to work 50+ hours a week at a fast food job. what the **** am i accomplishing?
Now the other assistant manager is on vacation for the next two weeks so if I quit now, I'll be screwing them. And they ****ing keep making me feel guilty cause I know they ****ing hooked me up and they keep talking about plans to make me a general manager down the line and move up. **** this ****. This is not what I want to do.
What is my best course of action?

i can't in good conscious do that... i didn't disclose to them that i had no interest in working for more than a few months and they, as far as they know, stuck out their necks to hook me up (it was actually company policy to not hire managers unless they have a driver's licence but they hatched a scheme to get me in and then promptly promoted me, put me in the highest-sale, best-run store in a good area where i'm guaranteed to make bonuses). like i said i think because the guy is palestinian that he wanted to hook me up.
i feel obligated out of a sense of guilty duty to work for them and i'm already dreading the two week notice months down the line when i go back to OCS. i dont want to even think about leaving in the next few weeks after my 'training' and certification and then i need to look them in the eye and say im quitting.
im getting off. i have to work 6pm-4am tonight.

I didn't want to work all these hours but they promoted me and offered me more money and I got the feeling that I was getting hooked up because the guy is Palestinian.
I'm scheduled 50+ hours/week and also have to be on-call. For $28K/year which comes to around $9.70/hr, is that really worth it? And they're pressuring me to buy a car because I'm more useful to them if I have a vehicle.
My schedule is crazy and is all over the place. I may work 6pm-4am then 10am-8pm. I'm trying to figure out how I can fit in my workouts and if I should work out before or after 10 hour shifts entirely on my feet. And it means performing is going to be impossible. I know from the past, that when I'm working a lot, my creativity gets sapped and I can not write, which is bothersome because the last few months, I've been at my most productive.
And all while I'm getting paid to give people obesity and heart disease. I'm not doing anything worthwhile.
I'm feeling an emptiness
this isn't supposed to be my life

I want to say I told you so, but I can't remember if I did. I certainly voted for the other option in that poll.Originally posted by Asher View PostMy promotion was effective today, and I spent 75% of my time in meetings and the 20% of my time arranging meetings (hard to schedule meetings with people in Calgary, Ottawa, and Mumbai), and 5% of my time coding.
