Although the Dunning–Kruger effect addresses erroneous perceptions of skill in general, not intelligence (and the lack thereof) in particular, casual commentary on it tends to dwell on that particular axis.

Since I don't know dfg I can't tell if he is intelligent or not.
However, his fearmongering (which i believe follows from his lack of fundamental understanding of the problem he is freaking out about) and subsequent refusal to accept the opinion of people who do understand made me think of this "effect".

To be fair, I think the vast majority of DFG's refusals to accept opinion stem from the "Ohh he insulted me, therefore he is an idiot not worthy of consideration" variety. Not that fundamental understanding isn't a contributor.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
