Are you glad, TMM? Now you don't have to defend your ridiculous position.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”

Yet not only are these rich people not fleeing California, as the right wing nut jobs claim they should, their numbers are rising and the billionaires seem unwilling to exchange their Malibu beach homes for low tax havens in the Oklahoma
Northrop, is gone now. Hilton Hotels is gone. Ebay is gone. Portland cement is gone, and that's as of 2010. Businesses are fleeing California, and taking jobs and opportunities to other states. State taxes are rising dramatically, as state revenues are collapsing.
California's not as bad as some states (IL), in terms of debt, but anyone who wants to make money, won't be putting permanent residency anywhere near CA.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

According to the latest 2010 Fortune 500 listings from Fortune magazine, there are 57 companies remaining in California. (Yes, Northrop has announced their move)
In 2006, 52 Fortune 500 companies were in California.
I got these quick numbers straight from Fortune's actual listings.Keep on Civin'

From APS:
Earlier this week, the APS sent out an alert regarding major cuts
in FY11 to science proposed in H.R. 1. These cuts, if enacted,
would have a dramatic effect on particle physics research in the
US. Since the year is half-over, the 20% cut suggested for the
DOE Office of Science must be treated as a 40% cut in the remaining
half of the year. For example, the director of Fermilab, Pier
Oddone, has stated it will be impossible to accommodate these cuts
without major disruptions including layoffs, furloughs and immediate
stoppage of all accelerator operations at the laboratory for the
remainder of the fiscal year.
All DOE Office of Science Laboratories will be similarly affected
as will DOE SC projects and supported programs such as the LHC and
the university grants programs. At risk are laboratory staff
positions as well as post doctoral and graduate student positions
at U.S. universities.
Not only will U.S. particle physics be seriously impacted, but the
opportunities for science research in the U.S. would be permanently
reduced should the proposed cuts to a broad range of science
programs be enacted.
These drastic cuts do not have to happen. Don.t forget to speak
up NOW and to take the time contact your representative in Congress.Jon Miller-

Grr, my bad. Sources altering each other. Michelle Says CA, LA TIMES says the Southland.
Point still stands, that companies are moving away.Last edited by Ben Kenobi; February 18, 2011, 01:35.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Texas ranked 30th in R&D intensity in 2007, defined as a ratio of total R&D performed to a state's GDP. 4th for overall R&D in the second most populous state. Not amazing.
Although I wouldn't expect a strong relationship between the overall secondary education quality in a particular state and the amount of R&D being done in that particular state.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Neither would I. The two are very different things. See, Gribbler, notice I never cited an actual number here, because I wasn't sure where they stood?
