YES, they measure all kinds of numbers on physical strength. NO, the numbers are NOT supposed to be comparable to NFL players in those specific tests that intersect BECAUSE THE SPORTS ARE DIFFERENT. And as such they require different muscle strengths. Bench pressing 250lbs is POINTLESS for NHL players, so they DO NOT TRAIN for it and that is why it is epicly retarded to compare the results and draw any conclusions aside from the fact that THEY DO NOT TRAIN THOSE MUSCLES TO THE SAME DEGREE AS NFL PLAYERS.

BTW, Alby, the players who score highest in most of the football-esque tests like benchpressing on the hockey team are the "enforcers".

They're also BY FAR the least skilled and valuable hockey players.

Also, even if NFL players had 100% perfect technique, I'm fairly certain that they'd never be able to shoot ~105mph slapshots and the like. You know why, Alby? Because football players really don't train those muscles used in that shot.

That's why you need to account for the sport-specific skills and any comparison would have to be common and on a level playing field. Fortunately, the NHL and NFL combines test their prospects in three areas in common. That gives some idea of the relative ability of the athletes between the sports. NFL players have greater upper-body and leg strength than NHL players. The NHL doesn't have any data on running speed but it would not be a stretch to say that NFL players also run faster since I highly doubt NHL players have 4.5 or faster 40 yard dash times.
