Pointless argument. Nobody cares about ice hockey.

People don't care because they are jealous and incapable. And too slow to comprehend the sport.

It lacks the homoerotism of Rugby and Australian Rules Football that the guilty Catholic nations like Australia cream themselves over, and it's way too fast for your average dumb American to understand.

stop it oh my god stop it.

Elok, since you're posting in here, do you understand what i'm saying? do you understand my logic and how asher isn't even responding to my points and just saying blah blah about how he loves hockey?

I want to know that i'm not crazy but this site is making me lose my mind. i'm tired of these games. maybe my reasoning is flawed somehow or maybe it's not an adequate test (i cited things like Lance Armstrong's performance at the NYC marathon as an example of how measurables sometimes don't equate to performance in a different sport even though logically they should). but I know for god's sake that what asher is doing is not responding legitimately to my idea. he is spewing forth diarrhea.

this happens a lot. i never see any honest response. i see games. nothing but twists of certain words, misquotes, half-quotes, putting words in my mouth, etc. everyone is incredibly prejudiced and approaches nothing with any thought or open-mindedness.

i'm not ****ing ******. and i'm not ****ing crazy. i know i'm ****ing right. i was right about cold weather being unusual in dallas. somehow apolyton is the twilight zone.

You are crazy, Alby. I've addressed all your points and dismantled them.

Albie. You are not crazy. There ARE several people here who do seem to take great delight in playing games with you, twisting your words, putting things in your mouth and so forth. There are several people here whom you really should disregard and I think you know who they are, you won't get a serious response from them, just trollery of the worst sort.

Asher is not really responding to you.

A number of the people here are biased on certain subjects and will twist arguments.

Some are stupid and some don't give much though to what they post. Nothing needs to be, or can be, done about that.

Are NFL linemen fat? That depends. Are Olympic lifters and Powerlifters fat?

This is Hossein Rezazadeh of Iran, who won the gold at both the Sydney and Athens games in his weight class. He is 6' 359lbs. He has the world record for the clean and jerk at 580.9lbs:

The problem is that the human body can only get so strong without adding a lot of bulk. The ability to clean and jerk 500+lbs (hell, the ability to clean and jerk 400+lbs; I would even say 300lbs but I'm not sure) requires so much mass that no human being could achieve such feats while having less than 10% bodyfat. It's just not possible.

The fact of the matter is that for an NFL lineman to have the strength levels required of him, he must be huge. O-lineman, especially, are supposed to essentially form a wall around the QB called the pocket. Size is important and they could never have their required strength with less bulk.

Now, are they fat? Probably but it is a size that is necessary to be that strong. And let's not kid ourselves, the typical 300lb man is nowhere near as strong as any NFL lineman or Olympic lifter. And while a smaller person will always beat these guys in a foot race, let's not act like (the jokes about Albert Haynesworth notwithstanding) a sedentary 300lb man would ever be able to catch a 300lb NFL lineman in a foot race. These guys may be slow but they are fast for their size.

For anyone who appreciates athletic feats, there's a crapload on youtube.

Check Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson (6'3" 226lbs) and his 66 inch jump:

I want to see a hockey or soccer player do that. Now, people.

Let's see it. Where's it at? Post please. Waiting...

                      By the way:

[Cardinals Strength Coach] Lott said the pound-for-pound strongest player on the Cardinals' roster is safety Adrian Wilson, who weighs 230 pounds and can bench press 430 pounds.
Can bench 430, has a 42-inch vertical and can clear 66 inches and a 4.52 second 40-yard dash.

I seriously want to see some soccer players put up the numbers that NFL players do.

Asher, Football is not interesting to me because of the skill involved. Neither is hockey. It's watching the struggle in real time that is exciting. I can't really follow hockey that well because I don't know enough about it to really get what's going on, since it moves too fast to just watch the puck. Football is pretty obvious: Guys in one line, guys in another line, one line trying to move one way and the other line trying to move the other way. It's also slow enough that I can follow it without knowing much about the sport.

I don't really enjoy watching sports, but I'd prefer football over hockey. But it's like music taste, it all boils down to personal preference.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

Beautiful. I have the results of the 2010 NHL and NFL combines. Fortunately, some events are shared in both combines.

                            NHL:

                            NFL:
2010 NFL combine results. Live combine measurements, 40 yard times, bench press reps, vertical & broad jump, 20 & 60 yard shuttles and the 3-cone drill results.

Let's take a look at the measures in common between the leagues.

                            Bench Press:
The NHL uses a 150lb bench press whereas the NFL uses 225lb.

The top performer at the NHL combine was Harvard's Danny Biega with 20 reps at 150lbs. Biega is listed at 6'0 205lbs.
I decided to take an NFL player who would be around the same size as Biega for comparison. RB Jahvid Best is listed at 5'10 199lbs. He is a little smaller than Biega yet did 18 reps at 225lbs. RB/WR Dexter McCluster is 5'8 172lbs. He is a lot smaller than either but busted out 20 reps at 225lbs.

A 172lb NFL player benched as many reps at 225lbs as the strongest NHL prospect benched at 150lbs.

                            Advantage: NFL by a long-shot!

                            Standing Long Jump:

The NHL's top performer was John McFarland and his 116 inch long jump. That's 9'8" jump.
The top NFL RB was Joe McKnight with his 128 inch jump. 10'8". DB Chris Cook hit 11' even.

The best NFL prospect out-jumped the best NHL prospect by a full foot then some!

                            Advantage: NFL.

                            Vertical Jump:

The NHL's highest jumper was Jacob Fallon who was measured at a 31.5 inch vertical.
The top RB prospect at the vertical was Montario Hardesty at 40 inches even. Eric Berry had a 43 incher.

The best NFL RB prospect jumped 8.5 inches higher than the best NHL jumper. The best NFL defensiveback had over a foot more air than the NHL's best.

                            Advantage: NFL by a longshot.

SUM: I WIN ASHER. YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!!

By the way, 20 rep bench press at 150lbs as the top NHL combine performer is a ****ing joke. 10.8 reps was the average for the 2010 combine (10.7 reps for the 2009).

I ask anyone in this forum to go to the gym and put 150lbs (the bar is 45lbs so you'll be putting on a 45lb plate and 7.5 on each side for those who don't know) on the bench. Lay down, lift the bar out of the hooks and take it down to were it just touches your chest and back up to full lock-out of the elbows and repeat.

I am certain half this forum could bust out 10 reps at 150lbs. You did it? Good. You're as strong as the average NHL player!

                                Holy **** that's a ****ing joke.
