How this post could be construed as racist is bizarre to me:

Cockney noted that Barry Rubin is a Jewish Israeli commentator and that he holds a decidedly Israeli stance as represented by his article. What is racist?

Maybe Cockney's appraisal was inaccurate or premature but there is no evidence that Cockney rejected Rubin's argument solely because of the ethnicity of the author, except insofar as his ethnicity allowed him to make a reasonable conjecture as to Rubin's loyalties and opinions.

you are both extremely stupid and extremely dishonest. al even helpfully quoted the post. in the first sentence i pointed out the shocking fact that barry rubin is jewish (which is true) and that he sees the situation through israeli eyes (which is also true). in the second sentence i provide a summary of his analysis and simultaneously my problem with it. it was so simple that i thought even the likes of you would be able to understand it, but apparently not.

I haven't participated in this discussion so far and I like to firs clarify that I'm not rejecting his argument, actually it has merit.

Yet I must criticize this comment. Why is it ok to be say suspicious of Russian posters motives and factoids when discussing say the Georgian war but its not ok to consider that like Russians may be biased in some matters or Christians in others so Jews might be biased when it comes to Middle Eastern tribal politics? Its naive to think that they don't on average have a vested (emotional) interest in the welfare of the state of Israel (many even have relatives that have made Aliyah).

My inference from COckney's statement was that he rejects Barry Rubin's arguments solely because the author is israeli. That opinion doesnt rise to the level of 'racist' IMO but it is inconsistent with the idea that critical readers should be aware of partisan motives. While it may be an issue of miscommunication and misinterpretation due to the nature of this "sound bite level" medium, IIRC COckney is an unapologetic liberal. These days, unwavering condemnation of Israel and support for the palestinians is the knee-jerk reaction of liberals (a good example was provided yesterday by the one-sided speech by american ambassador to the UN on a resolution brought by Lebanon i.e. Hezbollah) and COckneys statement is consistent with that viewpoint.
