Are you denying that a Jewish commentator and fellow at some Israeli Counter-Terrorism institute would see things from an Israeli standpoint, as Cockney pointed out?Last edited by Al B. Sure!; February 18, 2011, 22:12."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

How this post could be construed as racist is bizarre to me:
Him being Jewish is a statement of fact and that coloring his opinions is evident.Originally posted by C0ckney View Postoh what a surprise, jewish commentator barry rubin sees the whole thing through israeli eyes. the theme of the article is that things will be bad in the future, why? because the new eygpt will be less friendly towards israel."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Ben has some semblance of understanding the arguments he is involved it. DD just jumps in and starts waving his arms in panic reaching for anything that has a glimmer that it could support him.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. Rejecting an argument specifically because the author is a Jew, isn't racist to you?Originally posted by Al B. Sure! View PostHow this post could be construed as racist is bizarre to me:I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara

Cockney noted that Barry Rubin is a Jewish Israeli commentator and that he holds a decidedly Israeli stance as represented by his article. What is racist?Originally posted by DinoDoc View PostRejecting an argument specifically because the author is a Jew, isn't racist to you?
Maybe Cockney's appraisal was inaccurate or premature but there is no evidence that Cockney rejected Rubin's argument solely because of the ethnicity of the author, except insofar as his ethnicity allowed him to make a reasonable conjecture as to Rubin's loyalties and opinions."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

you are both extremely stupid and extremely dishonest. al even helpfully quoted the post. in the first sentence i pointed out the shocking fact that barry rubin is jewish (which is true) and that he sees the situation through israeli eyes (which is also true). in the second sentence i provide a summary of his analysis and simultaneously my problem with it. it was so simple that i thought even the likes of you would be able to understand it, but apparently not.Originally posted by DinoDoc View PostRejecting an argument specifically because the author is a Jew, isn't racist to you?
you on the other hand have told an obvious lie in post 353 and then when i called you on it, you tried to flog the 'you're a racist' dead horse. zevico tried that one and has since run away with his tail between his legs. but you're too stupid to take the hint it seems."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

I haven't participated in this discussion so far and I like to firs clarify that I'm not rejecting his argument, actually it has merit.Originally posted by DinoDoc View PostRejecting an argument specifically because the author is a Jew, isn't racist to you?
Yet I must criticize this comment. Why is it ok to be say suspicious of Russian posters motives and factoids when discussing say the Georgian war but its not ok to consider that like Russians may be biased in some matters or Christians in others so Jews might be biased when it comes to Middle Eastern tribal politics? Its naive to think that they don't on average have a vested (emotional) interest in the welfare of the state of Israel (many even have relatives that have made Aliyah).Last edited by Heraclitus; February 19, 2011, 04:52.Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”

My inference from COckney's statement was that he rejects Barry Rubin's arguments solely because the author is israeli. That opinion doesnt rise to the level of 'racist' IMO but it is inconsistent with the idea that critical readers should be aware of partisan motives. While it may be an issue of miscommunication and misinterpretation due to the nature of this "sound bite level" medium, IIRC COckney is an unapologetic liberal. These days, unwavering condemnation of Israel and support for the palestinians is the knee-jerk reaction of liberals (a good example was provided yesterday by the one-sided speech by american ambassador to the UN on a resolution brought by Lebanon i.e. Hezbollah) and COckneys statement is consistent with that viewpoint. We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI
