    Sure. Perhaps, then, a mother should just be able to decide to remove the fetus from her womb and see if it lives. If it lives at 7 months, more power to it.

        Yep, that is a nannystate action. One that actually involves saving the lives of actual human beings. Abortion is also something that is private, while gun ownership is a social issue with externalities.

        It's alarming that so many Republicans don't give a **** about rampant guns killing so many people, but damned if you terminate that six month old fetus.

                            Orphanages are not the same thing as universal day care...

                            So you think instead of banning abortions, all those children will be born then magically cared for by the state until 18? And you think they'd grow to be productive members of society?

                              So you believe individuals who own guns, each of whom has a very low chance of killing something which is definitely "a human being" obviously need to be strictly regulated. On the other hand, you believe that abortion, which has a pretty much certain chance of killing something which some people have a defensible belief is a human being is not any business of the government. Furthermore, you think that anybody who disagrees with you on either count is being irrational, despite your failure to come up with any strong argument to defend that position, other than labeling one set of controls authoritarian and the other set reasonable.
