a city - I'm a Moscow boy, got to have people around me
with good public transport - I don't enjoy driving, because I'm bad at dynamic equilibrii
and low crime urban neighbourhoods - don't want my kids to get mugged
Or, if you want Moscow winters, try Winnipeg. It is a less expensive city, where you can actually purchase a nice detached home in a safe community for about $200,000 CAN. Sadly, public transport is only adequate, with above ground bus service through the city. Winnipeg also had a fair number of orthodox churchs, if you're into that. There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

For low crime San Diego is constantly rated as the safest big city in America. Violent crime is actually down at the same level it was in 1963 when the city had 1/4th to 1/5th the population so it's safe as it gets without going to some boring igloo in Canada.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Come to the Philadelphia area. We have tons of Eastern European immigrants here and housing is cheap (relative to NYC or the West Coast). Not only does Philly have a lot of cultural attractions but it's smack in the middle between NYC and DC and it's a 2-2.5 hour drive from either. It's also 2 hours from Atlantic City if you're like the other Russians and enjoy gambling."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Actually Seattle is really nice, the people living there tend to be artsy & educated, while the job scene is better then most cities too. The main draw back is the city wasn't ever really planned so it just rambles where ever with no rhyme or reason to it and there is no mass transit to speak of outside of downtown.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Sacramento is kind of boring suburbia (and the town tends to be divided into really nice areas or really run down areas) but by California standards even the really nice areas are surprisingly affordable (often in the $200k-$300k price range) plus it has a huge Russian and Ukrainian population with lots of Russian shops and restaurants. The location is pretty central too with with San Francisco about two hours away to the west and skiing & gambling at Lake Tahoe about two hours east. The only problems are there is no mass transit to speak of nor much in the way of culture unless you drive to SF. Alternatively Davis, CA is a nice medium sized town about halfway between SF and Sacramento. It's a university town with a large agriculture emphasis but the town is very well laid out with classical homes and great architecture; again for high culture (beyond music festivals and such) you'll have to go to SF but it's only an hour away from Davis.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Actually, onodera already made it clear he doesn't want to be around a lot of Russians.

Oh well. He might change his mind after he's been here a while and wants a taste of home though.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Because it's part of NYC so even though it's a section of NYC which is completely a Russian neighborhood there is still the other 18 million people in the metro area so as a percentage of NYC's population it's not huge.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
