If the best they can do is have some schmuck try to blow up a plane by lighting his nuts on fire, I am really, really, really not afraid.

    • Indeed, there are a lot of engineers in third world countries that couldn't work a fulcrum. Those that can usually can do better than a terrorist organization.

      • All it would take would be a half a dozen suicide bombers to take out 6 different commuter trains in the US. This could paralyze the US. Can you imagine that if people were afraid to ride commuter trains across the US, what it would cost to eliminate that fear. Next buses. It would not take a lot of capable resources to pull it off and I'm actually surprised that it hasn't happened.

        • Ha ha. People are already afraid to take commuter trains in the US.

Imagine what a dozen car bombs would do then The whole nation would freeze.

            • Funny man Dashi. All kidding aside, cities like NY and Chicago would be crippled without the commuter train network. Now add a few bombs on the subway or L.

CO, remember how paralyzed DC was because of one sniper.

That's my point. It wouldn't take much at all to really stick it to us, and it hasn't happened yet. They can't have command of that many capable resources on site. With trains, it wouldn't even require suicide bombers. It's easy to get off trains unnoticed.

                    • Yeah, I'd like to think it was due to diligence by US government agencies but we know that can't be it.

                        • I now see warnings displayed at metro/cityrail/etc stations here, saying people should look if there are lonely bags or something. This was introduced couple of weeks ago when there came more and more reports that there are indications for possible Mumbai-style terror attacks somewhere in Europe ....just that these were carried out by guys throwing grenades and firing at anything that moves with assault rifles, so I'm not sure how this would prevent such an attack.

But yeah, maybe there are still some uncool old-style terrorists that plant bags containing explosives instead of having them in their pants.

                          • Of course, U.S. government did its part, and I didn't mean to deny it. But everybody seems to forget that 9/11 only happened due to our own complacency. It takes time, money, and planning to stage a major terrorist attack, and it's hard to sneak something big past a vigilant enemy. If Al Qaeda were still a large and formidable force, we might have more cause to be worried, but most of the active nutters seem to be puny little outfits and lone jerkoffs shoving bombs down their knickers.
