I remember that. I think it mainly paralyzed Northern Virginia because crime is such that I'm not sure many of my neighbors even know murder exists. That is to say, any violent crime at all is really rare, so it scared people disproportionately. I also remember thinking it was really stupid that everyone was so scared about it.
