No thread about the new WIKILEAKS United States diplomatic cables leak?
“In a democracy, I realize you don’t need to talk to the top leader to know how the country feels. When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.” - Jimmy Carter
Amazon isn't supporting anyone. Wikileaks is just being hosted on Amazon's cloud (I was wondering why they weren't in the first place -- idiots...), they're paying just like any other customer.
Your country is full of idiots who lash out at companies for providing services to those who pay rather than squashing freedom of speech.
Embarrassing for you guys.

I doubt that any legal repurcussions will result. The blow back I referred to was taking on a controversial client during the holiday sales cycle.
If comments are any indication it would seem a number of folks are planning to take their business elsewhere. BTW - The decision to take ones business elsewhere likewise is freedom of speech and freedom of association matter. Not that I advocate it becuase a) it is stupid and b) more often than not innefective.

Again, if the comments are any indication, even supposedly educated people reading the WSJ are becoming dumber by the day.
FWIW, the entire Amazon process is automated. No one person goes through and approves accounts, etc. WikiLeaks could just sign up, provide payment info, and do whatever the hell they want without Amazon's consent.
If Amazon pulled down the WikiLeaks site, they would lose my business. And under my direction at several companies now, we've spent tens of thousands of dollars per month on Amazon hosting. And I'm sure I'm not alone -- a lot of us tech guys are pretty sharp and recognize that freedom of information is something to be supported.

The issue is not wikileaks or any other site with this material on it. The government is focussed on Wikileaks and Assange in order to divert public attention from their incompetence. The real issue should be prosecuting the traitors who stole the material in the first place and dealing with the incompetance of both the system design and the personnel that allowed this to occur.

"Capitalism ho!"
It's not theft if they had no intention of buying it in the first place.
Wait, wrong thread...

In most of the Cables I have read about Argentine and Spanish politics, it looks like the American diplomats are not for sure not experts in the countries they were sent to.
Most of the cables end up being Hair Salon chat, it is nice to see obsecuent politicians have secret meetings with US diplomats in which they insult crazily the "leaders" they supposedly love.
In on of the cables, the diplomats was visiting a city major, the city major started talking crap about the president, and the diplomat wrote that the city major´s wife was continuously making signs to let him know that he was talking too much, but he completely dismissed hisw wife. Now everybody knows how he really feels.

Well time for you to move your business elsewhere, as Amazon kicked Wikileaks out of it's cloud due to "pressure"...
The Wikileaks website migrated to Amazon's cloud hosting service yesterday after being hit by a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. Amazon decided to discontinue serving the controversial website this morning in response to pressure from critics, including prominent members of Congress.
A DDoS attack launched against Wikileaks overwhelmed the site's Swedish hosting provider, forcing them to seek alternatives. The DDoS, which reportedly generated approximately 10 gigabits per second of bogus traffic, is thought to have been orchestrated with a botnet. A hacker calling himself "Jester" has claimed responsibility for the takedown.
Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, was among the congressmen who pressured Amazon to stop hosting Wikileaks. He told AFP this morning that he plans to question Amazon about its relationship with Wikileaks.
"WikiLeaks' illegal, outrageous, and reckless acts have compromised our national security and put lives at risk around the world," he told AFP. "No responsible company—whether American or foreign—should assist WikiLeaks in its efforts to disseminate these stolen materials."
The site was down briefly after being ejected from Amazon, but is back up and once again running on the servers of Bahnhof, its previous Swedish hosting provider.
Only one day after Wikileaks moved to Amazon's cloud hosting service to evade …
well these days there is no other place than Europe for freedom of information
