  • Republican Wave

Looks like 90 to 100 congressional districts are in play. The Senate might be slightly out of reach, but you never know. Feels like 1994.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Unfortunately the Democrats will claim victory if they hang onto the senate, causing Obama to point and proclaim his mandate to rule still in effect.

That outcome might not be so bad. The Senate is impossible to control to any degree and it would be better to have that headache on the Dems' hands.

I don't remember '94 all that well. Was it just as clueless as now? I thought otherwise.

Nothing's new in politics. In 1994, there was a big backlash against Hillarycare.

However, this election is rare because the economy is in a huge ****ter.

I'm counting on a huge psychological uplift after the elections to improve the economy and help me find a job. Do you think the stock market will jump the day after elections on the news of the Republican takeover?

No. The stock market has already been lifted substantially over the last few months and everybody's looking closely at earnings more than anything.

Well either way, I think it's going to have a psychological effect on businesses. It's going to remove a lot of uncertainty over the legislation that will be forced on business in 2011 and beyond. Healthcare is going to be completely defunded and there will be no cap and trade. Not to mention any other bull**** Obama tries to throw at businesses is going to be stopped cold. We can have gridlock which can actually be a good thing and is certainly better than what we have now. I really think the economy is going to pick up starting in first quarter 2011 and really pick up in the second quarter.

I agree that gridlock is just the thing right now. If Obama suggests another stimulus, I will get out my pitchfork...

But I think the economy has been picking up its pace steadily and slowly despite the government's misguided fiscal and regulatory policies. Warren Buffett says so.

Warren Buffet is an Obama fan. Just your typical rich liberal white guy feeling guilty for his fortune that thinks everyone should pay higher taxes too.

I think Warren Buffet just likes the attention and has so much money even a huge tax rate just doesn't mean much to him.

Even if both of you are right, it doesn't make him wrong. He has a broad portfolio of domestic non-growth businesses from which he gets daily reports. He says that he's hiring.
