A Republican House will be such a gift to Obama, just like Newt Gringrich and his ilk werea gift to Clinton. For the next two years the President gets to blame the imbeciles in Congress for everything that goes wrong, plus the inevitable flood of stupid investigations they will start will make him look like the only Adult in the room.

I know. They might actually start passing good legislation like Newt did with Welfare Reform.

This is why such presidents still get re-elected despite party "waves."

Clinton was really good at making republican legislation look like his idea. Not that I really mind as long as the legislation is good.

The key difference between this an 1994, I figure, is that this time the Dems actually managed to pass their healthcare reform act. But otherwise, sure, it could be similar. I'm fine with it, generally. The stimulus and healthcare got done (albeit imperfectly, of course) and now if we get a Clinton-Newt dynamic it might even work reasonably well. We do need a solution to the deficits/debt. Maybe, just maybe, the incoming GOPers/Tea Partiers and Obama can reach a compromise solution. Probably not, but one can hope.

The races I will be voting on are not close. My congresscritter (Joe Courtney) is waaaaaay ahead of his "challenger." For governor, last I saw Malloy was leading Foley by enough. For Senate, Blumenthal had a big lead over McMahon. My state rep & senator are long time incumbents (Rs) that are also probably safe (though I haven't seen polls on those races).

I'd hand out some 3rd-party votes if I could, but there's hardly any on the ballot (CT for Lieberman does NOT count, ffs).

All in all, the choices are pretty meh.

Yep, they managed to do it and now there's going to be an even bigger backlash than just their attempt alone caused in 1994. Same with the failed stimulus. Both of which will probably be defunded next year.

Thinking that the Tea Party will have any lasting effect on the GOP core is naive at best. They will be co-opted and assimilated, in much the same way that out-of-work religious types magically support tax breaks for the rich and reduction in their own safety net. Hell, half the alleged TP candidates are just standard-issue pols riding the bandwagon.

It's pretty clear that there isn't going to be a Republican wave and instead it's going to be a very mixed result with Republicans just barely taking over the House while Democrats retain the Senate.
