In Japan, they have squat toilets as an option. I wouldn't say that Japan is primitive when it comes to toilets.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Having toured in Japan quite a bit, I can say that it's very rare to be forced to use a squat toilet. Western-style toilets are almost always available.Comment

Well I did point out that in a lot of circles, it is considered the natural way. Sitting period, for an extended amount of time, is an unnatural position for humans anyway. Modern man is known for having weak hip flexors and underdeveloped glutes as a result.
Seriously. Ask anyone you know who has always worked at a desk job and never exercises to squat. No weight or anything. Just go into a squat position, ass to grass as much as possible. I guarantee a lot of people won't be able to do it.
See this position:
