  • The French dress code

News, analysis from the Middle East & worldwide, multimedia & interactives, opinions, documentaries, podcasts, long reads and broadcast schedule.

Some rights groups have voiced concerns that the legislation risks raising Islamophobia, in a country where some Muslim women already face harrassment for wearing the veil.

If implemented, women caught wearing face veils in public places, including streets, markets, government buildings, private businesses and public transport would be fined $190.

    $190 for this!?!

Why not move out to some country which is more free like Iran?

    or USA

Except Britain - they are third world, or so said the Catholic church.

I'll like to point out that while the original post cites al jazeera which is not always the best source for real news, googling confirms that the French senate has indeed approved such a ban.

Yeah, and yankys are pissed because a mosque is being build in NY.

Is the federal government blocking it?

Do I sense a hint of Al Jazeera discrimination here?

this is without the high heels

There is nothing wrong with demanding immigrants conform with social norms. If they don't like it then they don't have to move there. In any event there are lows which prevent wearing masks in banks so why is it so outrageous to not allow face masks in other public places? Don't even try to claim religious freedom because there is nothing in the Koran about the Darth Vader outfits and instead it just calls on women to dress modestly. The burka is just an oppressive local cultural tradition and 1st worlders have every right to say they don't want such backwards and barbaric practices in their country.
