3% is not much difference in these types of polls. Well within the margin of error.

Gen. Petraeus was my daughter's commencement speaker this May. VERY impressive guy - obviously very intelligent. Well educated, well spoken, thoughtful -- but no personality to speak of. Certainly not a dynamic speaker.

Not that it really indicates anything, but FWIW, I heard nothing in his speech to indicate the slightest interest in public office. Quite the contrary; he made comments to the effect that he was grateful to be shielded from partisan politics.

An obvious disqualification for wanting to run for public office.

I agree but my point still stands that it is right around 50% and not in the toilet as some have claimed.

It does depend on the wording in the poll. I have seen it lower in some, but being in market research, I'm very cynical when it comes to these types of things.

As long as he re-institutes the draft for everyone ages 18-19...
What, you mean the one that Charlie Rangel is pushing for? The only one who supports a draft are the Democrats.

I hope Obama institutes one. It would be hilarious.

I just don't see a creditable Republican who I'd vote for winning the primary (I'd like to see someone like Mitch Daniels make it, but I can't see that happening).
I'd definitely count Gingrich above Romney-Huckabee-Palin. But below Mitch Daniels. Though I'm certainly not the base of the Republican party so who knows how that'll work out in the primary. But I'd love to see Daniels get the nomination and would be ok if it went to Gingrich.

My ideal scenario though is for Obama to get a second term and after the GOP takes Congress this year have the last 6 years of his presidency be like Clinton's last 6.

HC probably has some crap that will disqualify him at MEPS anyway. You'd be surprised by how many things disqualify you from military service.

At the next election I will be too old, won't I?

and no, they'd probably take me in a heartbeat. Very few people apply for the military with my level of skill, iirc.

Yes I would be flying a desk, but they'd still take me.

Carter was remarkable in that he had literally NO major successes EXCEPT in the camp david accords.
I've explained what Carter did, and the proof is in the pudding - Reagan followed his strategy and the USSR was no more within a decade. Unfortunately Bush-Clinton-Bush didn't learn from Beirut or we might have avoided 9/11. This is one of those cases where the history we could have had is far worse than the history we did have thanks to the switch from intervention to containment under Carter and Reagan. We switched back to intervention when the Wall came down and its been a mess ever since.

Sure. Whatever you say, Kuci Junior. Uncle Sam needs YOU!

My point was medical. You'd actually be surprised by just how many things can disqualify you medically. Some common disqualifications are eczema, food and animal allergies (though a waiver can be possible in some cases although unlikely), attention deficit disorder, scoliosis, asthma, sleepwalking, etc.

I like Governor Mitch Daniels a little bit. Former Utah Governor and current Ambassador to China John Huntsman, Jr. was a favorite of mine (but he'll never run in 2012 after getting the Ambassadorship).
