lowest point, Ek = 1/2mv^2 = Ep = mgh.

1/2mv^2 = mgh

0.5v^2 = gh

v= sqrt (2gh)

Box should be zero. It's a fixed point for the pendulum to swing.

b) Find an expression for the tension in the string when the bob reaches its lowest point.

FT will depend on the angle of the bob. It should balance out the FG on the string.

FT = Fg = mg sin theta.

For the bob at theta = 0, FT = mg. M = mass of the bob.

c) Find an expression for the acceleration of the center of mass of the system at the instant the bob reaches its lowest point.

Well, this will be the centripetal force on the bob.

a= v^2/r, where r = length of the pendulum, v = tangential velocity.

d) Find an expression for the upward contact force on the box from the horizontal surface at the instant the bob reaches its lowest point.

This would be the centrifugal force, which is the reactive force from centripetal motion.

Fcent = ma = mv^2/r where r again is the length of the pendulum.

I think that's right.

You know, it's okay if you find this problem too hard, Ben. Not everyone understands physics. For some, the symbolic manipulation and physical intuition is simply beyond their grasp. E&M doesn't require you to construct things like free-body diagrams, so my twin brother has provided me with a much simpler E&M problem (and it IS very simple). I hope you can at least accomplish this

I'm only continuing to pester you about it not because i want to see you admit you're wrong or anything dumb like that. I just want to make sure you get that it's not as simple as you thought and are aware of a civil rights issue in this country particularly in your home state.

I wasn't wrong. The only reason not to vote other than laziness is that you don't like either candidate, which is a fractional vote.

And constitutional republic does not even imply full enfranchisement. It implies a republic with a constitution and that is all. Republics are not democracies. We live in a constitutional democratic republic, which STILL doesn't necessarily imply full enfranchisement. BUT BEN THIS IS NOT FOR YOU TO DISCUSS! Keep working on your fizzics

oh and there is ONE POSSIBLE NITPICK you can make with my brother's cable problem. It does not explicitly state that the area between the outer cable and the inner cable is vacuum. Now I have specified it. This problem is superduper easy, I hope you can figure it out!
