I am not that hopeful, I have read too much.

I have mostly had good roommates. I can name only one really bad one.

However, from my observation of 'normal' college students I would agree with the staying far away (and my vote was for 1bedroom).

I don't really have "normal living arrangements" right now; I was living with a girlfriend most of the last 12 months, but we broke up around April and she has been staying with friends and family for the last couple of weeks (and hopefully will continue to do until the tenancy ends at the end of July, which is when I go to Switzerland, conveniently). Generally speaking I've lived with several groups of people in my life and there's always been nightmares and horror stories. I don't think that the types at this place would be that bad - staight-laced Swiss/German engineering types - but I think I would appreciate my own little refuge.
