Hello good people of Poly (And Albert Speer, arf arf), quick poll for you: I'm going to visit the company sponsoring my doctorate for up to 3 months in Switzerland later this summer, and I've been given the choice of my own 1 bedroom apartment, or sharing a larger apartment with other students (That will generally range from ages 18-21; I'm 28), all of course paid for by the company. Which sounds like the better choice?

I like my own space and the idea of my own apartment sounds great, but contact with young people in a new (and somewhat dull) town might be quite handy to keep me sane. Or it might just drive me insane. You know what the Eurotrash are like

So, comments, votes etc. appreciated pls.

If you are single go with the shared place.

i would always choose to live with people, and in a new town it will be a good way of getting to know the place, the sites, the nightlife etc.

Honestly I don't know if I'll be single or not by then. All signs point to being in a disastrous attempt to keep a new relationship going; I'll definitely want her to come visit at least once.

The town basically has no sights and no nightlife beyond things like the theatre. I'm going to be working my ass off the entire time and probably exploring the beauitful country on weekends so I doubt socialisation will be a huge issue... but of course, that's just my own blinkers. I will actually go with the shared house if the moral majority agrees I'll need it

Why exactly did you single me out?

Whatever you do, don't ask Kuci. He's liable to say the student house of course because there will be 5 bathrooms in that house.

Just to mess wit you dear boy. Bathroom issues are important too, I stayed in "the villa" before and it was 2 bathrooms + 1 extra toilet for about 6-8 of us. I think I'd much rather have my own. Oh yes and it was filthy, I didn't like that either. Looks like the 1 bed has snuck into the lead...

                    Don't you understand?

Dec 20, 2003 posted by me:
Unless you got fifteen people living in your house, why would you possibly need more than a single bathroom? hell, there's plenty of Sudanese immigrants here who stick nearly a dozen people in a one-bathroom house and they seem to do just fine. As I understand it, fifty or so years ago, it was very common for two seperate families living in basically two seperate houses to share a single bathroom and yet, how many bathrooms does your family's house got? For those with more than one bathroom, why?
My talk of bathrooms predated that thread where Kuci exposed his bourgeois decadence which was in 2005. Don't you understand? This is destined! He's the anti-me and I'm the anti-Kuci! It's like matter and anti-matter in a... Hauldren Collider

And remember, I wasn't around at the time. I missed out on it.

Generally I would pick to live with people. Talk to the people first, make sure they are serious/won't distract you too much from your work/etc.

I don't know who the **** you are but I've never been so angry and so frustrated with another human being as I am with you now. It's 105 degrees outside. I'm going to walk around to try to burn off this anger. There's just something about you that makes me want to beat someone dick first. It probably has to do with your bull**** reminders about how you are FROM PHILLY and have PHILLY LOYALTIES. You are as grating as the song CALIFORNIA GURLS. NEWSFLASH: NOT EVERYONE FROM PHILLY SHARES SOME COMMON BOND! NOT EVERY GIRL FROM CALIFORNIA WILL MELT YOUR POPSICLE!

Generally, people do that because they are hopeful the roomies will be agreeable.

I am not that hopeful, I have read too much.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
