I still consider myself a Transhumanist, I just fear Asians may not be smart enough to figure out how to build a friendly AI. On the other hand they may be smart enough to pull off eugenics or genetic engineering of humans.
BTW In practice many Chinese provices refuse to give mentally or physically handicapped people (I don't support this but it does fall under eugenics) marriage licenses and genetic testing for diseases is encouraged.
Its also becoming a scientific superpower.
In 2007, Chinese geneticists discovered vast differences in the genetic makeup of Africans, Asians and Caucasians. They will soon report a breakthrough showing why some people -- such as Tibetans -- can live effortlessly at high altitudes while others can't.
Inside the 11-story facility, the vibe is pure Silicon Valley start-up: shorts, flip-flops, ankle bracelets, designer eyewear and a random tattoo. Zhao came to BGI on a summer internship last year to work on cucumbers. Now a full-time employee while continuing his studies, Zhao is turning his attention to a topic Western researchers have shied away from because of ethical worries: Zhao plans to study the genes of 1,000 of his best-performing classmates at a top high school in Beijing and compare them, he said, "with 1,000 normal kids."

Its quite silly how people somehow imagine the US competing with China in the future. Its ridiculus, a country with a billion and a half IQ 105 brains? Once could split China up into two or three countries and still every one of them would be a force comparable to the US in just a few decades.
Human brains are what ultimatley build all economies.
Canada will however do alright, its mostly importing high IQ Indians and Asians. So I can easily imagine Canada growing and becoming a powerfull nation of over 100 million people by the end of the century.
