No, you're right, but by definition the majority of people in the west live in high-density population areas. I expect a nation such as Canada would be >75% urban...?

But again you're right, North American public transport is a total joke...

But then in the scheme of things, a <30 min car journey is hardly taking the piss - though I admit I prefer my 10 min bike ride...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Asher, it's $121 for a Monthly Metropass in Toronto. Are you getting the student rate?

And I am surprised by how expensive Toronto transit rates are. It's more expensive than Philly and Philly's transit (SEPTA) has the highest rates in the country.

        Urban doesn't mean high density...

My SO and I both lived very much well within the city limits.

We're going to have to kick them out of the anglosphere if they keep this up.

I got the Metropass Discount Plan, which is $110 per month but with a 1yr commitment (if you cancel before the year is up, you have to pay the money you saved with the discount back). But then you get tax credits for which works out to ~$100/mo.

                    Holy ****!!!

What are you driving, a ferrari!?

Even accounting for $CDN exchange rate that is ****ing expensive!

My moth-eaten regular speeding fine afflicted insurance for a whole year was <£300 for the year last time around. But then again, I am an old bastard!

Your marginal tax rate is 10%?

(or is it not completely pre-tax money?)

Please, do tell why it's economically savvy to tax the use of non-renewable resources?

It's a 2004 Mazda 3 hatchback. The car doesn't even matter. The reason it's absurd in Toronto is the people here are disgusting, vile human beings. It's all legal liability costs and lawsuits.

I just did a quote for Calgary when I move in a month, and my car insurance there will be $95/mo. $250 to $95 just for changing my postal code.

                          I hate this ****ing city.

I haven't done the MDP for 2 years and when I did have it applied I had tons of other kinds of credits from tuition, etc. I ended up getting $120 back or something from it.

I'd probably actually get a lot more back if I had it now...

When they set the rate, it was like ~0.70 USD per $1 CDN.
