        By definition the San Remo document was written to put in writing law that was custom or impose new restrictions, which were not formal international law yet. Unless you're going to argue that somehow San Remo gave the IDF new freedom that was unaccepted before, which you'd have to prove.

                  Fundamentally, these people were attention whores trying to get Israel to do something rash. There's no way Israel is going to let these retards into Gaza when there could be weapons, tanks, rockets, anything aboard. Hamas has and does use aid shipments to smuggle in armaments. The Israeli Navy commandos gave them a lot of warning that they were going to do what they did--and so the terrorists, I'm sorry, peace activists, responded by attacking the Israeli commandos after being told to turn back. Whether they were in international waters is not relevant because they were headed for Israel, no one disputes that.

                  I hope we can agree that Israel does, in fact, have a right to defend itself, a right it is exercising by preventing ships from entering Gaza.
