either the "white-only" population included hispanics, as drake mentioned, or you're wrong.

    edit: cross-post. whatever.

      Not nearly as many.

What does that have to do with what you quoted? Also, if you're replying to my comment about healthcare being only a factor, I said it was only a factor, I didn't say that it wasn't a factor.

I would doubt it, white = Caucasian.

Not usually, hence the existence of demographic sub-categories like "White, non-Hispanic".

My father, a practicing actuary (as well as a lawyer, as I think I've mentioned before), has worked with these statistics and I'm just telling you what he thought of them.

What does quantity have to do with it?

The point is even poor in Canada have access to health care. You can be completely homeless and still see your family doctor if you get the flu, and get help. You can still be screened and treated for various cancers if you have no income at all.

It stands to reason the life expectancy would be higher in a country where all citizens have access to this.

Only if you accept that preventative medicine has a significant effect on health outcomes. There's actually very little evidence that this is true.

I'm seeing a lot of evidence in this very thread, in addition to common sense.

Everyone knows if you catch most illnesses earlier, the outcome is better.

I doubt it would close a two year gap. How about you post some of these statistics.

Drake, I don't believe hispanic folks are considered to be a 'visible minority' up here.

What evidence? The seemingly flawed study you linked to in the OP?

Common sense isn't worth much when examining issues as complex as differences in national health outcomes. I'd much rather see the results of a well-designed statistical study.

                        PDF is here: http://www.pophealthmetrics.com/cont...8-7954-8-8.pdf

Doesn't define "white", but in their sample population the % of white people was virtually identical to the point is moot:

                        USA: 81.8% white
                        Canada: 82.1% white

Income quantiles are also similar, slightly higher for Canada though.

AFAIK the difference in revenue between the poorest quintile in Canada and America is not significant. The difference in health care availability is huge.

A poor person is a poor person, white or "******", mind you.

The study could be better, I guess, but until more evidence is brought forward it appears that Canada probably has a better health care system.

The white, non-hispanic percentage of the U.S. population is only 65.4%. With white hispanics included, the white percentage rises to only 75%. I call shenanigans on this study.

                                How is it 'seemingly flawed'?

                                See above.

edit: Looked at the PDF and am now quite confident that this is a crap study. They don't even go into any detail on the specification used in their regression model.
