In the US, the government cannot be separated from the people - of, by and for. It has no power or ownership of its own. It's not a separate entity - it is a service, only.



Failing to understand basic politics, like this above, is what drives this country into a socialist nightmare. In this country, the government is not your dad or mom - deal with it. Canada is obviously well top the left of the US generally. While there are SOME members of the Canadian Copnservative party that would be quite comfortable among even the righties of the Republicans, their leadership and positions are well to the left of the Republicans generally.

Consider a few issues and the governing Conservatives positions on them

UniversaL health care-- Canadian sacred cow
Abortion-- Talk about it as little as possible
Gay marriage-- Held a 'free vote' on the issue to appease their right wing then did nothing about it-- If they ever attain a majority this will likely not change since they wouild need to elect a number of moderates

Finance-- Despite some tough talk about deficet reduction, they seem to be spending like drunken sailors on shore leave-- this is where the US RIGHT idea falls throuigh since Americva is far worse when it comes to spendng money you do not have (hardly fiscally conservative!!)

I've spent a week or so in Amsterdam, pure holiday. I've also been to Christiania (Kopenhagen) a dozen or so times, where it is also not technically legal (I was there once during a 'raid').

I can think of a few reasons. It throws a great christmas eve party, and there's a fantastic italian sandwich place nearby.

You are confusing the government taking money for itself, and citizens recieving government benefits. Congressmen abusing power has nothing to do with government spending to provide health care to citizens.
