Now look at his ranks: Black belt and Master of Sports in Judo and International Master of Sports in Sambo. Pretty much the same as Putin has.
Combat Sambo if not the best, than one of the best fighting systems ever created. It is extremely effective. And considering that Putin was an active intelligence agent I suspect his training included not only sport Sambo, but combat Sambo as well.
