It's been a long, hard slog...but I'm going to leave Toronto
Congrats. Calgary seems to have more in the way of ChemE jobs than Toronto for some reason. So, even if/when he gets laid off it should be easier to find something else quickly.
Is it substantially cheaper to live in Calgary than TO? If so, then working from home is a sweet setup. But I would make sure to have a dedicated room for an office, if you can swing it.
Yeah, I'll make a home office. I'm also going to make my own side-business to do some consulting stuff...some of my friends/colleagues do this and it's easy money. It'll double as both of my offices.
Calgary is a bit cheaper than Toronto, but not substantially so. But the cost of living is much lower in general because Toronto sucks. Car insurance is half of what it is in Toronto, for instance.

Calgary is the centre for oil & gas in Canada, which is rebounding. That's why there's a lot more Process/Chemical Engineering jobs. Toronto used to have some due to manufacturing, but it's not that big anymore here.
Plus we've got more friends/family in Calgary, so if things ever get rough there's fallbacks.

I'm glad you like it, though I'm not sure what the difference is. Congratulations!
They are different cities in Canada.
Oh, Americans...

Calgary is colder than Toronto. That's one of Calgary's redeeming features.
Cold & dry instead of Hot & humid.

Congratulations!
The Toronto I knew was a nice city; The only unpleasant thing
was cold sometimes.
Perhaps you just want too much.
Reasonable tax rates and controlled government spending, low crime rates, nicer & most honest people, beautiful mountains, no humidity , and a real hockey team.

Congrats to the SO on the gig, Asher. And to you for being able to move 2000 miles and keep yours. Very nice.
Indeed. I was very surprised they'd be okay with me working remotely, especially a couple timezones away, but I guess it's more work to find someone to replace me than just to deal with it.

It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
RIP Tony Bogey & Baron O
They are just happy with any solution that ends up with him 2000 miles away?
