Calgary is the centre for oil & gas in Canada, which is rebounding. That's why there's a lot more Process/Chemical Engineering jobs. Toronto used to have some due to manufacturing, but it's not that big anymore here.

Plus we've got more friends/family in Calgary, so if things ever get rough there's fallbacks.

We should introduce a sales tax and jack the income tax rates now, while there are hundreds of thousands of people here earning large amounts of coin, so that sales and income taxes pay the day to day bills of the province and cities... meanwhile sticking the resource revenues into a sovereign fund the returns of which can be used to smooth out the bumps when the energy industry is no longer returning the large dollars.

We would want lower taxes after the transients leave, not while they are here.

I have lived here all my life outside of short periods in LA and Toronto. My family has been here just about as long as there's been a province (some a bit longer). There was a time without oil and gas. Odds are there will be again.

That is untrue. Norway is funding it's pension system and more from energy revenues.

I do admit the problem for a province like Alberta would be keeping the feds and people like KH and GS away from the pot of honey.

I actually think that the province should invest a part internationally, and a smaller part at friendly interest rates to infrastructure in the West and and the rest of Canada. Let Wezil have a taste.
