    ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME.

He didn't win because Ovechkin was voted to be the most player to his team that year.

I NEED TO MAKE IT PERFECTLY ****ING CLEAR FOR YOU. I AM NOT SAYING IGINLA IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE. DO YOU ****ING UNDERSTAND?

        ****. That's 3rd out of 1,005 players.

        You're right, he's ****ing worthless...

By the way, where were Luongo and Burrows on that list?

It's a counter to your argument that he should be considered the best player in 2008.

He didn't win because Ovechkin was voted to be the most player to his team that year.
And it wasn't even close. Find me a citation that says that Iginla is an 'extremely respected player'.

          • I feel I should mention this also.

Iginla won the Mark Messier Leadership Award last year.

            What does that award mean?
The Mark Messier Leadership Award is a National Hockey League (NHL) award that recognizes an individual as a superior leader within their sport

            Huh. Isn't that something.

I NEVER MADE THAT ****ING ARGUMENT. IN FACT I EXPLICITLY AND PREEMPTIVELY SAID I HAVE NOT NOR HAVE I EVER SAID THAT. ****ING HELL.

And it wasn't even close. Find me a citation that says that Iginla is an 'extremely respected player'.
****ing very easy to do, because all the ****ing awards he's won and been finalists for and the words of your ****ing idol DO NOT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
Matt Stajan will get another chance to develop some on-ice chemistry with new linemate Jarome Iginla when Calgary hosts the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT.

"You want nothing more than to have an opportunity like that, and especially with a guy like [Iginla] who is respected throughout the hockey world," Stajan told reporters Tuesday.

That quote, by the way, is a month old.

The official National Hockey League website including news, rosters, stats, schedules, teams, and video.

Jarome Iginla has led his team in scoring for eight consecutive seasons, but that's not the only way the Calgary Flames captain proves his genuine worth to his team. Iginla is the Flames' leader in every way -- he scores, he checks, he fights, he does it all. And his teammates appreciate it.

"Everybody knows his skill level and what he brings offensively," said Martin Gelinas, his linemate in Calgary's 2004 run to the Stanley Cup Final and now the Nashville Predators' director of player development. "But when his team is down, he lifts them. He fights for his teammates, and that's an attribute that not too many captains have.

"In the room, he is respected because he is such a great person. As a player, you want to do it all for him. He's that type of guy, the whole package."

He is one of the most respected leaders in the game.

Settle down Crosby fans. I'm not just another Caps fan hating on Crosby, and I'm not saying Crosby isn't qualified to be Captain or wouldn't...

Two things really pop out at your when thinking of Jarome Iginla. The first is leadership. Iginla is already an NHL captain so he knows the role of being a captain. Captains must motivate, lead, and set an example for others. Iginla is one of the most respected players in the NHL. Not only is he an elite goal scorer, but he always ranks high in player surveys as one of the best Captains in the NHL. He isn't afraid to drop the gloves as well, almost always in defense of a teammate. These are some of the intangibles that make a great Captain.

This was ALL ON THE FIRST PAGE OF RESULTS FROM GOOGLE. ****ing hell is this easy...

              Another good one:
Get the latest sports coverage, in-depth news, scores, highlights, stats, and expert commentary on the NHL, NBA, NFL, CFL, MLB, MLS, Golf, PWHL, CHL, and more.

He's done it before and he can do it again.

Jarome Iginla announced his presence to the world at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, scoring twice in Canada's gold-medal win over the United States to become what former Calgary Flames teammate Theo Fleury dubbed "the new Paul Henderson."

For the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Iginla can still be the difference maker. At 32, he's shown no signs of slowing down. In fact, during the Canadian team's orientation camp in Calgary, he was aligned with Sidney Crosby and Rick Nash to form a most dangerous trio. Little wonder why.

Since 2002-03, Iginla has averaged 39 goals a year. This NHL season, he hit the ice with guns blazing, scoring 13 goals and seven assists in 14 November games. He added back-to-back game winners and recorded his ninth career hat trick to earn a share of NHL player-of-the-month honours; proof plenty that the two-time 50-goal scorer hasn't lost his touch around the net.

But there's more to Iginla's game than offence, always has been. He is a controlled physical force - a prime ingredient for the Olympics, since the games will be played on NHL-sized ice surfaces. His fighting skills won't be needed, but his ability to give and take, grind and skate will make him tough along the boards.

"You can play hard all over the ice," Iginla said of the 2010 Olympic tournament, "but you still have to be careful and not take penalties. You have to be smart."

That speaks to Iginla's leadership. When Iginla first played in Salt Lake, he was cast in a secondary role behind the likes of Steve Yzerman, Mario Lemieux and Joe Sakic. All three of those players have retired and Iginla, who watched and learned from them, will be counted on to say and do the right things at crucial moments.

That's an assignment he's grown comfortable with, having guided the Flames to Game 7 of the 2004 Stanley Cup final. Iginla has become one of the most respected leaders in hockey and that will give him clout on an Olympic team laden with NHL captains, assistant captains and take-charge players. He'll make his points and his Olympic teammates will take heed.

For all those reasons - his adaptability, accountability and attitude - Iginla is ideally suited to be the Canadian player who benefits from Crosby's passing and from Nash's rebounds to emerge from Vancouver a star indeed, a hero reborn.

              • Here's a nice article:

Iginla an icon for tomorrow's players

Maybe it’s East Coast bias, maybe it’s the fact he’s not a real boisterous guy off the ice, but I think it’s time we put Jarome Iginla’s career in perspective.

The Calgary Flames superstar should, first off, always be considered just that – a superstar. He is by far the most complete player in the game today; one who can hit, score, fight and lead.

True, he has never broken 100 points, but he did win a scoring title (2001-02) and two Rocket Richard trophies (’01-02 and ’03-04, the latter of which he won alongside Ilya Kovalchuk and Rick Nash) during the dullest era of hockey ever. He has not won the Stanley Cup, but he did come achingly close (and he does have an Olympic gold medal).

But for me the true measure of Iggy’s clout is the effect he has on the future stars of the game. Ask any number of major junior players – even those who aren’t in major junior yet – who they model their game after and more often than not, they say Iginla. Apparently it’s hard to say no to power, speed and skill.

The last point I’ll make is this: Before he even stepped on an NHL ice surface, Iginla was traded to Calgary from Dallas along with journeyman Corey Millen for an in-his-prime Joe Nieuwendyk. Millen would play less than 100 games for the Flames before finishing his career in Germany and Switzerland, so essentially Iginla was traded straight-up for a future Hall of Famer and nobody can say it was a bad trade.

Selecting Roberto Luongo as our Captain is a significant decision for our entire organization," said Gillis. "Alain and I were looking for someone to lead this team, who inspires his teammates, is respected for his on-ice accomplishments and who embodies the core values we are striving for as a hockey club. We are confident that Roberto, along with Mattias, Willie, Ryan and all of their teammates, will provide this organization with strong leadership both on and off of the ice.

My view? Luongo's a very good choice for the Canucks and should be allowed to wear a letter on his jersey even if Mitchell handles the other duties. There's no reason netminders can't be team captains, as the designation is largely ceremonial anyway.

When the Vancouver Canucks acquired respected Montreal-born goaltender Roberto Luongo from the Florida Panthers for Todd Bertuzzi in the offseason, they hoped they were not only getting rid of some bad karma, but also getting a long-term solution in the net.

Alex Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby? Or maybe it's Evgeni Malkin or Pavel Datsyuk? How about Roberto Luongo or Martin Brodeur? Zdeno Chara or Nicklas Lidstrom? All are great players ... and all would be at the centre of any water-cooler discussion when you are trying to sort out the NHL's top 50 players.

                    5. Roberto Luongo, Vancouver

Will he be Team Canada's No. 1 goalie at the Olympics?

                    8. Jarome Iginla, Calgary

He'll do whatever it takes to win, even if it means dropping the gloves.
