Slovakia should have won tonight. They played better.

You clearly did not watch the game.

He was standing up and pressed against the goal post with a sizable hole as he wasn't pressing properly. The puck went in through the hole. It was his fault, no argument can be made otherwise. You gotta be tight against the post when the puck is at the side of the net.

I felt bad for Halak, as there wasn't much he could do on those first two goals.

First one-- Luongo should have had. Nobody scores with that shot from that location against a properly positioned goalie

I rteally need the ben defintion of "played better", Is it the same conceptually as "outplay"? You see I thought I understood you on outplay since you seemed to just state that the winner outplayed the loser making it pretty much synonomous with "won"

But that cannot seem to work for this since Canada won yet you say they "played better"

Lets see-- Basically the Slovaks were in a defensive shell for two periods and had directed 9 shots on goal and arguably ZERO good chances to score through two periods while Halak made some excellent stops. Down 3-0 they got some jump when Luongo allowed a pretty awful goal and then even morer jump from an inexcusable Canadian breakdown. Casnada scranbled at the end but in the end prevailed

Overall on a game wide basis, Canada had more shots, chances, goals and time in the opposition territory.

Slovakia did play an intelligent defensive style in the hopes to hang around,get opportunistic and win a low scoring affair. It almost worked. But ultimately it didn't.


So Ben in what elements of the game did the Slovaks dominate?

US being the major favorite. Having the hottest keeper counts for a lot and 6 goals in a period is impressive so I have a tough time seeing them as underdogs.

But Canada has overall outplayed everyone they have faced and overall does have a more talented roster. The problem they have is in net. Luongo has been merely adequate to good while Miller has been fantastic. If I had confidence that Luongo could step up with a great game I would confidently declare Canada the favorite. BUt I don't have that confidence

Canada was sluggish and uninspired for the game, and were fortunate to be up 3-0. They sat back on the lead, something I've not seem them do all tournament.

It almost cost them their berth in the gold medal game.

Bobby Lou is 5-0 this tournament.

My thought is that Canada would lose not because of Bobby Lou, but because they can't crack Miller.

That's going to be my prediction, 3-2 for the Americans.
