Do you honestly think you know more Mexicans, know them better, or have spent more time in Mexico then me, a guy who grew up living on the US-Mexico border? Honestly? Seriously, I know you have spent a week or two vacationing in Mexico but just in sheer hours I've probably spent years in Mexico. No lie, no exaggeration. I speak Spanish. I go down there all the time to shop (for one booze, gasoline, and cigs are cheaper), I vacation there at least twice if not more times per year, when I was in college EVERYONE (and I do mean EVERYONE) went down there for spring break. Even in high school it was extremely common to go down to Mexico because they did not enforce the minimum drinking age plus you could get great beach front resort places for a fraction of what it would cost in California or Florida. I've done just about everything except work down there and that includes seriously dating Mexican girls.Originally posted by Provost Harrison View PostI understand you have some issues with the Mexican authorities and how lax they are with enforcing the laws but this is not just isolated to Mexico, let us be fair. And before you start slagging off Mexico and the Mexicans, you should get to know some of them a bit better. Perhaps spend some time visiting
In short, I have a very good idea about Mexico and Mexicans. I wouldn't say the best but, as a person who has always lived on the border, I think it is better then most Americans.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

I can remember, in high school (so around 1990-1994), we would go partying in TJ and just rent a beach front cottage for $19.95 per night for 5-6 people. We'd all tell our parents we were staying at each other's houses for the night and instead would go out drinking and clubing all night. Even making $4.25 per hour I could afford to go to very nice (I mean very nice) Mexican restaurants to eat with my friends and what ever girls we got to go along with us then stay at a beach cottage for the night. Sadly, most of the time you wouldn't get laid but even if a girl didn't come with you it was easy to find a Mexican girl who would agree to hang out with you for the night. I honestly wish I had more balls to go for it but even so you ended up making friends who'd show you nice places and you'd end up spending who weekends down south.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

It does take money, which is Tijuana's problem, but I do have to question how genuine they are when the US government spends hundreds of millions of dollars to build them a state of the art sewage treatment plant which Tijuana refuses to use unless the US gives them money to operate it. This is especially true because the original contract which the US government signed with the Mexican government agreed that if the US government paid for a state of the art sewage treatment plant then it would be Mexico's responsibility to operate and maintain that plant. We, the American people, gave these bastards a huge gift and signed an agreement with them before we did it and now they're trying to go back on their agreement. That's just not right.\
On a different note Baja could create as many reservoirs and aqueducts as California has but they choose not to. Mexico has the second lowest over all tax rate in the western hemisphere behind only Haiti. They have the second largest number of millionaires in the world but they choose not to tax them, sure, it is because the Mexican elite control the Mexican government so you end up with millionaires and tons of dirt poor people with few in between but the reality is they could if they wanted to. They have made a conscious choice not to serve the needs of 90% plus of their people and I have a problem with that when they demand money from the US.
Pretty long-winded to argue against my statement that they don't have enough fresh water to drink, which they don't.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

I think you have cause and effect backwards here. The millionaires are probably in Mexico because there are low taxes. If you started taxing them most would just leave.Originally posted by Oerdin View PostThey have the second largest number of millionaires in the world but they choose not to tax them, sure, it is because the Mexican elite control the Mexican government so you end up with millionaires and tons of dirt poor people with few in between but the reality is they could if they wanted to.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

Or they might be in Mexico because they were born and raised in Mexico and are Mexicans. Could you find some examples of millionaires that have relocated to Mexico for lower taxes?Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostI think you have cause and effect backwards here. I didn't mean to imply that all of the millionaires are foreign
. And you can feel free to take everything I say with the caveat that not everything I say will be correct. That said, there are a lot of countries that millionaires who do not have a location-dependent job are attracted to because of low taxes. It would make sense if Mexico were one of them.

You implied that most millionaires in Mexico are there because of the low taxes and I offered an alternative explanation. I'm just asking you to provide some evidence that would back your claim and counter mine. If you're satisfied with making sense then whatever.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostI didn't mean to imply that all of the millionaires are foreign

Yes, because I explicitly declined to comment on race at all, you presume that I'm speaking primarily about white folks.Oh, so you think it's impossible for Mexicans to surpass the white man in anything. No matter how hard they try they'll never outcompete the Aryan race in worn out tire accumulation. RACIST.

And that says it all. Thank you Oerdin. You've told me all I need to know about your experience with Mexico and mexicans. Do you sincerely believe that vacationing as a tourist will give you true understanding of Mexican people?I go down there all the time to shop (for one booze, gasoline, and cigs are cheaper), I vacation there at least twice if not more times per year, when I was in college EVERYONE (and I do mean EVERYONE) went down there for spring break.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Well, I don't think that a country like Mexico could have the second-largest number of millionaires in the world (or did he mean western hemisphere?) without being a tax haven. But now that I've researched it, it would appear that Canada has more millionaires than Mexico. And the US has more millionaires than Canada. So that makes the entire point moot I think.Originally posted by gribbler View PostYou implied that most millionaires in Mexico are there because of the low taxes and I offered an alternative explanation. 13th largest GDP. Combine that with relatively high income disparity and it's plausible that they could be near the top in total millionaires. edit: without attracting foreignersOriginally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostWell, I don't think that a country like Mexico could have the second-largest number of millionaires in the world (or did he mean western hemisphere?) without being a tax haven.
