    Nope, hadn't heard of that. The tribunal made the right ruling, as far as I can tell.

    The only catch is that the woman signed a contract prohibiting certain behaviours in her personal life and she didn't obey that, that's another issue. It has nothing to do with religion though, it's an issue of tort law. I'm not sure how enforceable those are.

    I can see why Ben hates the Human Rights Tribunals. Religious groups run afoul of them a lot. They show love for "all of God's children", except for the gay ones. Then they get busted. It's glorious.

      You understand that there are different interpretations and acceptances among denominations, right? You can't really generalize on religion any more than you can on anything else.

        I get them all confused.

        All I know is:
        Catholics = kiddyfiddlers with long-term guilt issues
        Baptists = southern accents and racism
        Evangelicals = mentally challenged
        Protestants = annoying Christmas cards

        I got a bunch of generic Merry Christmas cards from every WASP-y woman on my floor at work. I didn't even know half their names or met them, they still gave me a card. INFURIATING.

          Baptist are Protestant, but so are Methodist. If you ever decide to explore possibilities, you should give Methodists a look.
          I'm not so well informed to know the specifics, but at one time a split occured and I've been with United Methodist.
          Like I say, I don't really know.

            I was raised a Protestant (United Church of Canada -- originally they were called Canadian Methodists I think), loosely. Been there, done that. Since 1984 they openly accepted homosexuality, and in 2003 they actually petitioned the government to legalize same-sex marriage.

            As I said, my only real knock against protestants is the propensity to send me Christmas cards.

              Which is much different than some other viewpoints. That was my point.

              We don't really go with the "girls should hold an aspirin between their knees" instruction on teen sex, either.

                The main problem is the people with those viewpoints also tend to be the ones who just don't talk about it (there's nothing wrong with that).

                It's just that whenever the religion is discussed or brought up in life anymore for me, it's always in the context of some religious nut trying to belittle me or take rights away from me as a person because of their personal beliefs. It's astonishingly maddening and more than a little sickening to me.

                I apologize to all of the non-Ben-like Christians out there that get caught in my crossfire.

                  Let me acknowledge that I run my mouth a lot here, but really, I prefer to live my life in a way that might inspire even one other person to be decent. I do this; you don't have to, and I won't judge you. Because of that, the person might consider another attitude.
                  By no means does it stop me from being honest. I'm honest about myself; but again in actual interpersonal relationships, I won't say anything of opinion, unless I'm asked.
                  If you ask me, you best be ready. Don't be getting all pissy about what I tell you, because you asked me.

                    Straight-shootin 'Tex. It's a style I like and practice myself. It rubs some people the wrong way, but screw 'em.

                    If there's one thing people can say about me, it's that they're never unsure on what I think about something.

                      I think that's only fair. I have no truck with liars and devious people.
                      If you say it, it should be gold. Take it to the bank. I wasn't always of this thought.
                      I had to learn it. It's not always easy. I've said I'd do many a thing, or not do, and sometimes it's tempting to not follow through.

                                Methodists have never been connected to the Baptist churches, although both originate from the English Protestant movement.

                                Baptists emerged about 200 years before Methodism, and it was never particularly popular in Britain (it's still seen as a bit weird and extremist here). Methodism, being a more moderate and pragmatic denomination aimed squarely at the working classes, is far more widespread over here.
