I'm sure there are some consulting companies and banks that are still pretty close to being this strict.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

      4) Long vacations.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Lehman Brothers was. Strictly formal every time I had to go to their NYC offices.

New York is a conservatively dressed town. Washington is positively casual in comparison.

Yes, when I go to present to AMEX in NY, I'm always dressed to the max.

Actually Dan, NYC is much less "conservatively" dressed. DC suits are generally boring and cookie cutter. NY suits are usually more creative and individual. There's a difference between "formal" and "conservative"

All of the 20-something guys or guys in their early 30s had coloured shirts on their suits at Lehman, brightly coloured also. Definitely not what I'd call "conservative" but definitely formal. Lots of light pink (sorry, salmon) shirts too, actually.

Not only did you have to wear a suit, It could only be blue or black. Shirts could only be white, eventually they allowed light blue. Shoes black, no loafers. And you could only take off your coat when you were sitting at your desk. If you got up for any reason, you had to put your coat on.
                      Really? Wow.
