  • Inspired by Drake [serious] : trip to a foriegn star

You and 3 other apolytoners are sent on a trip to a foreign star. You are going to get there, and than raise and teach the kids which will be born there (test-tube babies).

Who do you bring and why?

Oh, and you can take a pill to turn yourself gay.

Please change this to a [serious] thread. My instinct is to **** all over it with trolls, but I don't want to mess up a thread I inspired.

    edit: Thank you.

        Now, for my [serious] answer...

I'm assuming that our primary goal in picking our crew members is to pick people who will be good teachers of necessary skills. My list would be slightly different if I were worried more about survival.

        1. Guynemer. Medicine is obviously a vital skill (especially on an isolated base), so having a doctor around is a no-brainer.

        2. KH. While less vital than Guy or the following individual, I feel like a solid base in math and science is important for the education of children living in a technologically advanced interstellar base.

        3. Someone with practical mechanical skills. Probably an engineer of some type. We would definitely need someone who could maintain our mechanical systems and teach the next generation how to do so. I'm not sure which Polytubby would be best qualified for this job, however. Any suggestions?

In the interest of full disclosure, I feel the need to point out that I would clearly be the weak link on this expedition.

Can we bring sex-bots? It's difficult to think of three apolytoners who could go on a long voyage with me without the four of us killing each other along the way, add in the possibility of having sex with them (gay pill or not) and it's a no-go.

My thinking... I haven't picked yet.

I would pick at least one person who has showed success as a father. The young life will be important and strange.

I would like to pick a girl, but there are not many here (even if we are all gay, still would be good to add ballance for the new soceity).

I would add a doctor, probably also Guy as he is pretty young and deals with young. He seems almost ideal.

If it helps, I think that the earth explodes in fire when we leave.

Also, the unexpected might arrive, but standard earth survival skills would probably not be needed as it would be a foreign place. I guess we could assume oxygen/etc.

Also an important consideration... if people kill eachother on the way that is obviously a failure!

Sure, sex bots are possible (or you can dial down your sex drive, something).

Off the top of my head, Asher, KH, and Jon Miller, because the odds are good that none of us will murder any of the others along the way.

You probably want someone with astro. Dying on the way out there because you went to the wrong star would stuck.

I'm not sure who would choose a set of internet nerds to raise tons of children, but sure, whatever. How on earth did you come up with this question, anyway?

Hmm...whom I chose would depend a lot on the challenges to be faced when we got there. Are we talking an advanced, established colony or some sort of primitive world we're there to tame? I guess Guy or Strangelove really would be a no-brainer in any case. Assuming there are no medical robots--but then, there might be robots or computers adequate for any number of tasks that could be fulfilled by a human, except for the liberal arts. I guess that's the only reason they have me along, though they'd have done better to pick Molly or RealBoris or someone more artsy.

Not knowing any details, I'll go with Loin or Kuci to help with the computers that do everything, Guynemer, and AC to keep us from all going prison-gay (not concubine or anything, just to provide a female presence). Also, I don't really want to do this, so replace me with somebody useful who's actually silly enough to want it. Maybe Hera, he knows some math and physics-type stuff and he'd probably be thrilled.

I'm fairly good mechanically, but I guarantee that there are others here who would be good enough to make their presence worthwhile even with me around. I have experience in carpentry, machining/design and electrician-type stuff. One of the poly mechanical or electrical engineers (?) would be a good complement.

I'm not competent to judge. The most important thing is that he'd be nutty enough to actually WANT to go on this stupid trip. The downside is that he'd try out his eugenic inclinations on the kids and they'd wind up a batch of Nietzsche-spouting Slovenian unibrows.

It might almost be worth going along as an observer.
