    US birthrate = 14.0/1000
    Norway = 12.0
    Luxembourgh = 11.5

    As against per capita GDP:

    Luxembourgh = $82,441
    Norway = $53,738
    USA = $47,440
    Right, you quote the exceptions. Everyone else has a lower birth rate, and less pay. Maybe we should look at Russia, no? Or maybe Japan and China? Low birthrates are awesome.

      China's birthrate is the result of artificial government interference that is probably outdated, but was at least partially the result of a concern regarding the ability to feed the population.

      Japan's growth rate is more indicative of the lifestyle many/most Japanese lead, which tends to be very high stress and work oriented. Add to that the cost of real estate in Japanese cities. Would YOU want to raise a kid in a 550 square foot apartment you can barely afford?

      As for Russia, I wouldn't even consider them in the same category as Western Europe, although let's take some more samples from Western Europe vs. the USA:

      Ireland has 15.5/1000 births, with a GDP of $42,110.
      USA has a birthrate of 14/1000, with a GDP of $47,440.

      Or, let's try this example:

      Singapore has a birth rate of 8.2/1000 with a GDP of $51,226.
      USA has a birthrate of 14/1000 with a GDP of $47,440.

      Yes, I am aware that IN GENERAL, the US has a higher birth rate and a higher per capita GDP than the rest of the 1st World. HOWEVER, the 1st World has an OVERWHELMINGLY higher per capita GDP, and an OVERWHELMINGLY lower birth rate than the rest of the world.

        Again, you ignore, Germany, France, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, UK, not to mention all of eastern europe, Russia and Japan.

        All have lower per capita income than the USA, and lower birthrates.

        I'm glad you can poke holes, but the elephant in the room is still there.

        Not questioning that. I'm just questioning the utility of anti-natal policies in the first world. They are at best, useless, and at the worst, harmful.

          I could say the same to you, and in fact, I did, which you addressed subsequent to this post.

          Not questioning that. I'm just questioning the utility of anti-natal policies in the first world. They are at best, useless, and at the worst, harmful.
          The only country I'm aware of with an actively anti-natal policy is the People's Republic of China, yet the economy of the PRC has been rapidly expanding year over year for quite a while. If you want, I'll get you specific economic growth numbers, but I don't think you want to dispute that China's economy has been growing.

            Oh I don't dispute it, but by 2014, which is only 5 years from now, their workforce will be shrinking.

            If China wants to have any influence on the world, they will have to act sometime before then. Their growth is already slowing.

              Of course their growth is slowing - they are getting closer to 1st World status. That statistic is disingenuous in the extreme. Countries can't support double digit growth forever, no matter what they do. But the fact is, the only nation I am aware of that has had a consistent anti-natal policy has recorded consistent double digit growth, and while that level of growth can't continue, no one at all is predicting negative growth.

                Ben, the birthrate argument is a ****ing joke. The more third world a country is, the higher the birthrate is.

                I bet if you looked at the birthrate by state, the trashy southern US hick states would win that battle too.

                  You are both ********* for arguing about this.

                  Ben has no ****ing idea what he's talking about. He is DELUSIONAL.

                  He'll correlate anything and everything with a sample size of one so long as it fits his delusional worldview, then he'll ignore the rest or pretend like it's something it's not. It's textbook.

                    FWIW, high birth rates are correlated with two main things:
                    1) General stupidity and religiosity of the population. The more religious areas don't know how to use contraception and/or don't believe in it, leading to families of 16 kids and a PRAISE JESUS HE IS BLESSING MY 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER BY GETTING HER KNOCKED UP attitude
                    2) General poverty and their lack of access to contraceptives and sexual education

                    The notion that high birthrates correlate to economic success is off-the-charts stupid.

                      While I'm sure you're right, I can't find a definitive ranking...I bet you are correct.

                        Asher, while I'm sure you're right that he has no argument, I'm not retarded for arguing with him.

                        Witness the fact that he is reduced to arguing that China's anti-natal policies "have caused" a reduction in economic growth from double digits to high single digits by 2014, ignoring the fact that China achieved double digit growth rates at the same time as the One Child Policy

                          Shock of shocks, I'm right.

                          The highest teen birth rates are in the South and Southwest; Mississippi is highest with 68.4 per 1,000, followed by New Mexico, with a rate of 64.1 and Texas, with 63.1. The lowest rates are in the Northeast. New Hampshire had the fewest teen births with 18.7 per 1,000. Vermont, with 20.8 per 1,000, and Massachusetts, with 21.3 per 1,000, were also low. Decreases were noted in New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia.

                            Yes, you are. You never argue with Ben, ever.

                            The only acceptable discourse is crass condemnation, berating him, and dishing insults.

                              Asher, be careful with that argument. Texas actually ranks pretty well when it comes to our economy.
