Were you born this stupid or do you have to work at?
    Ok, hands up folks.

Someone is caught stealing. He apologises and immediately returns the item before leaving the store.

Your response is to take him in front of a judge.

How many folks here would do that? Bueller, Bueller, anybody?

    Didn't think so.

This commercial could have been done by Reps, Dems, Perot, Greenies, whoever. My opinion of the usage would be the same.
I'll wait for you to report on copyright infringement by Democrats. *crickets chirp* I don't think I've ever seen you criticise Obama, Clinton, Kerry, Edwards, Hillary, or Gore, in all the years I've been on.

You have consistantly criticised Bush, Cheney, Palin, McCain. You're a classic Chicago-style Obama democrat. Why not embrace your ideals and own up to them? Is it that hard?

        Typical of your dishonesty Ben.
You make a stupid statement, people make fun of you for it, then you attempt to narrow down what you said so it doesn't look quite as stupid.

And yes, these days if you're caught stealing in a store they will prosecute reqardless of any apology. You're so funny.

Lay off the personal attacks against BK, please. Remember, do as I say, not as I do.

            Thank you.

Why do you think I posted what I did? Because obviously I wasn't clear enough the first time. I'm honoured that you think my opinion was 'not quite as stupid'.

If someone consistantly did it, ie it wasn't the first time, then yes, I'd escalate and prosecute.

Edit, you left in the accusation of 'dishonesty'? WTF? Uh I think that's still a personal attack rah.

It's not that you weren't clear enough the first time. You got called out on it and figured you had to change it.

Face it, the only time you probably get consideration from the store is if you apologize and return the item BEFORE YOU"RE CAUGHT. After you're caught (at least around here) you are arrested. But if you back peddle to that, your whole argument collapses since it included 'after you're caught'.

Back in the 60's and 70's they did cut some slack for younger people and first timers, but those days are long gone. All the major chains have zero tolerance policies in regard to shoplifting now.

And fortunately I don't give a damn what you think. You still can't debate worth a lick.

                  What did I change?

If you return what you stole, yes it does pardon your theivery.
                  This is what I said.

Someone is caught stealing. He apologises and immediately returns the item before leaving the store.

Your response is to take him in front of a judge.
This is where I expanded it. Notice in the original statement, I do not say anything about whether someone was caught or not.

Not only do I clarify, I also add the part about someone getting caught. And you have the nerve to accuse me of dishonesty? That's a terrible argument. I mean seriously.

Face it, the only time you probably get consideration from the store is if you apologize and return the item BEFORE YOU"RE CAUGHT. And here you admit that I not only clarified, but intensified my position. This is clearly the precise opposite of 'backtracking' and 'dishonesty'. I've given you a stronger position.

Yes, sure I can see why stores have a zero-tolerance position. I disagree with it. I'm glad you had the stones to admit this is not the way things used to be, and I would argue, it's not the way they should be.

Actually, I seldom talk politics on Poly. Not even in this thread, until now.

                              1. I've criticized every sitting President throughout my adult life. I'm especially disappointed with Obama's indecisiveness and backtracking on campaign promises (Gitmo, rendition, don't ask/don't tell, health care; the list goes on) despite having a strong majority in both houses.
                              2. Yes, I've criticized Bush, Cheney, Palin and McCain, though mostly prior to the 2008 election. You've got to admit, they are pretty easy targets.
                              3. I'm not affiliated with any political party and have never voted a straight-party ticket in my life. Yes, I tend toward the left on social issues, but am pretty conservative on fiscal issues. All things being equal, I generally vote my pocketbook first. And I rarely vote for an incumbent in either party (including Clinton, including Paul Simon), because I believe all politicians are ultimately evil, greedy and corrupt.
