There's really not much distinction between the two. I was a protestant, and the concepts wrt to his presence are pretty much exactly the same. The differences come in doctrine, and tradition. Remember, I was converted to Christianity by Protestants in the first place.

God says that people have intrinsic worth and value. Darwin says just the opposite. He's utilitarian, your value depends on what you can do.

I would say that Mennonites go one step further and establishing the priesthood of all believers. Lutherans to me are sort of a compromise between both positions.

Honestly, I don't feel that my relationship to Him has changed at all through this, my relationship to the Church has changed drastically. Yes, it is true that Luther argues for the 'personal relationship with God', but with things like prayer and confession, there is absolutely nothing preventing you from praying to God, and asking for His forgiveness.

What is different is that the Church insists that not only do you confess to God, you should confess to a priest. This isn't to say that the priest is the mediator between you and God, but it affirms that the priests have authority in them to forgive sins, which was given to them by Christ.

What Mennonites and Catholics both believe is that the community is important. Believers need to support one another and help each other. Lutherans are much more individualistic, which is one of the reasons why they don't like confession so much. Confession isn't meant to be a burden but a way we can relieve one another of the burdens we are all carrying around.
