I found it rather amusing that ZakuDL calls me a religious authority.

            1) I have BK on ignore,
            2) I'm an atheist,
            3) I'm totally rooting for BK in this fight.

Unfortunately BK automatically loses due to being unAmerican as a result of not having massacred enough brown and/or slanty-eyed people for zaku's tastes.

But Ben belives that Bush Jr is a prophet and that Obama is the reborne devil - that must count in some way
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

I'm just rooting for a long thread. I may even take BK off ignore for this one. If only zakudl would show up...

To Guy: rooting for ben in what fight?

I will talk religion with Ben, no problems with talking religion because most religious people I know aren't closed minded to others...weird I know. And I can also say that just because I am an agnostic-atheist now...I wasn't always, I was kind of raised as a devote catholic. Sunday and Wednesday school every week for...i cant remember how many years, the alter boy (insert Priest joke here right?), communion and all that jazz. I just grew up and made my own choices, so don't get to think guys that just because I am an ag-ath that I know nothing of religion. Also my first year of college I took world religions out of curiosity towards other religions. I also have experienced Hindu, Islam, Buddhist, Taoist, and even Confucius services/temples/churches/mosques...just because I don't believe in it doesn't mean I don't respect it.

So what is the argument that Ben and I are to have? Prove existence or disprove existence? Oh, thats solved...2 answers to the question and both of us won't agree on the other's answer.

How about the bible...we can debate specifics in the bible, where I picked out fact and fiction to Ben's ideas?

Whichever you prefer. I really don't care either way. I grew up unchurched, but found Christ when I went to university, so my experiences are a bit different then most.

                      Why'd you leave Zaku?

I started to see reality as I grew up, I was 10 the first time I experienced death in the immediate family, again at 14, then again at 18 and it hasn't stopped since. I had just gotten to Korea, my buddy Josh Titcomb had just been killed in an IED attack, we were clearing Camp Gary Owen to move to Camp Casey and I got a phone call that my Aunt Lisa had died. I already was dealing with my first loss of a friend to combat then I had her die on me and well well before her time (32 yrs old, brain cancer). I was really close with her. At that point I was bouncing around beliefs, I still wore a St. Chris and carried my rosary with me, but I did not stand for organized religion. At my great grandfather's service I lit 2 candles at the Christian church, 1 for him and 1 for my Uncle who had died a few years before (I missed that service) and hours later we get a phone call that since we lit candles we had to donate.....HAD TO DONATE. I was shocked that a church would demand donation. I already had ideas against organized religion, mainly the church sunday thing, but that drove me out of organized religion.

Over time I grew more an more accepting of the world and noticed severe similarities of western (to include Islam) religions and yet they all hate eachother. I started to see it as people are afraid and fear drives them to faith in something they have more control over that thye dont know about. Makes sense, local deities in ancient times were village specific and mainly manifested from fear. So I started to question my beliefs and realized that honestly a god or gods had no power over my life, no control over anything around me, just action and reaction, cause and affect, coincidence, and sometimes irony. But otherwise there was no reason to devote myself to a religion or faith, nor be required to follow a book written forever ago that is just a good fairy tale (IMO).

Plus I had already decided back in jr HS that I believed in evolution due to the irrefutable proof and fact behind it.

My belief now is in an afterlife (agnostic) but no god or gods (atheist).

Brain cancer? That death should have been somewhat expected, no?

I am sorry to hear that. I have had my father pass away so I know some of what that is like to lose someone before their time.

I generally find that people who have suffered loss have had difficulty in dealing with the people associated with church. People are jerks, they are insensitive, and they have the unerring talent of saying precisely the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Thank you for sharing this, and I'll pray for you tonight. If you have any questions about me, please go ahead and fire away.

                                God bless,
                                BK.
