Aside from that being one of the dumbest questions I'd ever heard, I'll give you an answer to the proper question: What is computer science?

It's a mathematical discipline studying information and computation.

If you want to actually know something, read the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_science

Courses on programming usually cease after a couple in the first year.

And you think I asked a question I didn't know? I wanted to see what you would say.

Why don't they call it 'Computational mathematics'?

Because that is different than Computer Science.

I don't think I could even explain the distinction to someone of your intellect and knowledge.

At my school, computational mathematics was mostly studied under the Computer Science department (it was technically called Computer Science with a concentration in Scientific Computation).

The best name for Computer Science other than Computer Science is "datalogy", which isn't very common.

Some schools, like the UofA, call it Computing Science.

I did have to do some courses in compsci, although no computational mathematics.

The question I was actually asking concerns the whole concept of the philosophy of science. It's what makes science work behind the scenes.

Datalogy makes far more sense than computer science because you are studying data in the same way that biologist study the workings of living organisms, or physicists study how the fundamental forces work in nature.

I'm just pointing out that I used to be really good at math (and I mean compared to a lot of people who are now scientists), so at least there must be some kind of potential.
Really? Given that you mention high school math in another post and probably didn't have much in terms of math in your philosophy studies, I'm guessing you're talking about being good in high school here. Which is a very misleading thought. I also used to think I'm pretty good at math, when I was in high school. After taking uni-level math courses, I realized it's not so. Not because of my performance, I performed very well in uni math courses. It's just that the uni courses made me realize that the math I know is actually pretty damn simple compared to the math used in proper theoretical science. Got even better when I saw that good math software handles a whole bunch of stuff that I barely even know of, if at all. So in the end, being "good" at math often means that you'll be able, hopefully, to understand the math behind some science concepts, but that's a LONG shot from doing useful research or understanding the latest research.

Nah. I'll be happy to join the noble quest of exposing Ben's lack of understanding of computer science.

                      • Oh, I just voted for economics. Now that I think about it, that's actually the obvious choice of the ones listed; as the most bull****-intensive of all those fields, OB should be able to apply his filosofy skills to some effect.

Nobody who respects that punk Parmenides should be allowed to crunch numbers or make important real-world decisions.
