We had an argument with words about rap. I posted some examples to show the direction rap has been going the last few years and how it differs from what you post (this is a music thread after all!). I also posted examples of how rap used to be and how modern rap is continuing that era. The songs I posted were supporting evidence for my position in our debate.

I'm not the one making liberal use of bolded letters and references to killing people.

Umm... you're forgetting a few things... one, while I did start with AAHZ, I did not start with Thoth. He was the one who started calling my music crap before I said anything about his. I'm not sure about you and me, however.

Secondly, you neglected how I explained why AAHZ music is crap (too much emphasis on bassy beats, no lyricism, a lot of talk of guns, killing, drugs, whores, and bling). AAHZ really didn't say anything to criticize it except that he wants more talk about guns and drugs. I think normal humans would agree that rapping about average folk > rapping about selling drugs.

Wasn't that THE criticism against rap? Wasn't THAT what everybody in the Tipper Gore mentality has been getting up in arms over for the last 25 years?

you and i 'got started' because you started talking ill informed rubbish about what i posted. i think however that the real problem is that we view music in a completely different way.

right ok, let me try to explain a couple of things. firstly, some people think that the quality of the beat, or even a part of the beat, is more important than the lyrics. aahz is clearly one of those people. you clearly swing the other way. once again your problem here stems from your inability to realise that others see things in a different way to you.

also, you seem to be implying in your posts that there are only two types of hip-hop, gangster rap and that bland, poppy rubbish you post. this, while no doubt making sense to you somehow, is untrue and it does the genre a great disservice. there's always been a great deal of variety in rap (although, granted, less than in other types of music). so when you say "rap's better now because people aren't talking about guns, gangsters and hoes" you are talking bollocks, because there have ALWAYS been some rappers who weren't talking about those things. your premiss is disingenuous and fatally flawed.
