Tool's Maynard has enlarged my mind. He's a poet warrior in the classic sense. One through nine, no maybes, no supposes, no fractions. You can't travel in space, you can't go out into space, you know, without, like, you know, uh, with fractions - what are you going to land on - one-quarter, three-eighths? What are you going to do when you go from here to Venus or something? That's dialectic physics.

hall and oates, not really a fan. it's not the worst music in the world, but there's so much stuff in a similar vein which is better, and as thoth said, some of their songs were very overplayed.

and now for something completely different...

junkie xl - today (unkle remix)

also, it's not just 'new' music. any station, whatever genre they specialise in, has so much material to choose from, it borders on the criminal to have a such a limited playlist.

albert: commercial radio in the UK is mostly terrible for new music. mostly they play it safe and boring, whatever genre they specialise in. there are a few bright spots with electronic music stations, but even they're not brilliant. the best electronic music stuff is reserved for internet radio and radio 1. the bbc provide some good outlets, on radio one, they have specialist shows for most genres, although radio 1 in the day is dire. i'm told that 1xtra is a good outlet for 'black' music (their label, not mine).

the only station i would say is really good all of the time is 6 music, which the bbc are now planning to close down. all the DJs actually like music and know their stuff and shows like 'fresh on the net' keep the spirit of john peel alive (i think they also recently hired his son to do a show ). i've discovered a huge amount of stuff through listening to that station, both old and new.

with the internet, it is easier for artists to put themselves out there, through internet radio, blogs, myspace etc. and create a buzz, and this does make it somewhat easier, however the other problems that i mentioned remain.
