          • I didn't post in because of Conan and I liked it before his commercials. What it means is that Conan, or some associate, may have fairly decent musical taste.

                  • Sloww, any thoughts on any of the recent music I've posted, like Aloe Blacc's I need a dollar?

I think I really could convert you into a rap fan. You like Sam Cooke? What you think of this rapper's performance of A Change Gone Come? He's singing but he's still a rapper.

Most rappers know they're the modern day Bluesmen and have songs exhibiting that connection whether it be an interpretation of those classic songs, a 1950's-inspired music video, or an old sample.

                    • I like Sam Cooke a lot. I like a lot of the things you post. When I bad mouth Rap, I probably should be more specific.
I don't like Heavy Metal either, but that's in a general statement.
If this last is considered Rap, I really need to rethink. I like it a lot.

                      • Well it's a rapper. He's singing Sam Cooke so A Change Gone Come obviously isn't rap since it's Sam Cooke.

Check this, Sloww, one of my favorites from possibly the best rap album ever, Black on Both Sides. You should be familiar with Mos Def since he's an accomplished actor and he was in the movie I suggested, Cadillac Records, as Chuck Berry. Check this song:

I mean that's like Curtis Mayfield or something. It's the natural progression of the art form from blues through soul through funk to rap. Don't be like all the other middle aged white people who think this sort of music stopped progressing in 1985 or something. Granted, there were bumps in the road along the way (such as EVERYTHING AAHZ posts!) but there is so much good out there.

This is one of his more traditionally rap songs where he's rapping:

                              • Another by Mos Def:

How can you not like rap like this? This is not some obscure stuff. I could find obscure stuff with positivity. Aloe Blacc was obscure for years but he's gotten famous off I Need a Dollar. These people I've posted like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Outkast are all mainstream. Outkast's Love Below/Speakerboxxx is actually the best selling rap album of all time.

I don't get how the rap criticizers don't come across this stuff. It's on the radio. It's on the music video shows. Really weird. Guess people only hear what they want to hear.
