Actually just in the last month adult curfew have been (for the first time ever as far as I know) considered in Chicago and Patterson, NJ. Neither passed or were really introduced seriously I think.

Around the world they only come in in times of war or national emergency. I believe there was a curfew in New Orleans during Katrina.

Ozzy, I'm guessing you've heard the same curfew ads I've heard about PG. Two things bother me:

      1) It's a crime to be outside. That's just anti-freedom in general. Sacrificing a fundamental right (going outside your house) in exchange for the chimerical promise of public safety is a fool's deal.

      2) The fines seem outrageous. Assuming that the curfews serve a valid public purpose (and that's giving them a lot), the idea that it's appropriate to fine people who are probably struggling financially really bothers me. Times are tough for everybody, and these curfews are mostly targeting lower income folks who are struggling more that most.

      Hooray for DC.
I haven't actually. I'm not in PG and I don't watch much TV. But... if you really hate curfews and want to help do something about them the NYRA-DC chapter is having a meeting tomorrow afternoon in Dupont. It'll start at 3:30 and be held at the Cosi right by the south entrance to the Dupont circle metro stop. Come on over.

I actually saw a NYRA canvasser on the streets of DC earlier this summer. Thought maybe I would stop and harass him for OzzyKP's sake.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

A canvasser? Where and when? We don't really have canvassers.

Nice evidenceless hypothesis. I think I'll go with the huge ramp up in the number of police as the reason though no doubt gentrification also plays a role.

They are just better at getting rid of the bodies this year

Funny, Obama gets credited and people don't refer to that as an evidence-less hypothesis. Good for Washington DC.

Dunno, I trust Lefty more than I do the rest of you lot. Good on DC on removing their gun ban.

That's actually a pretty interesting hypothesis. It seems possible that Obama had some impact.
I'll take my apology in 20s please.

Nice redundency, if it had some evidence or testing, it would be a theory, not just a hypotheses. Now tell me how much safer you would have felt in Iraq if you had been subject to gun control and been unarmed.
