I was a little apprehensive about how people would react to black cats, but the neighbours almost all love them.

Nice cats My parents cat, Coke, does the same thing with our neighbours, sometimes even sleeping in their house. Always have to be thankful for kind neighbours.

Eb never lasts long in there. She shoos him out immediately, but not with enough force to discourage him from trying again when the door is open.

I let them out when I am home and collect them before it gets dark.

I remember a discussion with -jrabbit about the perils of outdoor cats. I was so certain about my position in theory. I find myself a little more protective when faced with reality. However, they really do enjoy those grasshoppers, and I think they prefer not using a litter box if they can help it.

I am really conflicted now.

Building models is a pretty toxic hobby, with with all the petroleum distillates and epoxy resins, etc. So I converted the second bathroom (which has a vent) to a studio and I do my model building in there.

While I'm in there, the cats sit at the door and howl for me to come out and be with them. They don't want me to be anywhere in the apartment where they can't get to me.

Yeah, I'm not going to stop letting them out. I do pay a lot of attention to them when they are out though, and they are not wanderers. They generally stay within 200 ft. of the door.

That's pretty close to my experience. They follow me where ever I go in the house, or outside if given the chance.

This helps greatly in managing them when they are outdoors. I can open the door, step out, and often they will come running to me. If I have a bag of kibble and shake it, the odds of them rushing me are near 100%, unless I let it get too dark. If it is dark out, I have a hell of a time getting them in.

My brother's fiance's aunt has a 3 week old kitten they need to find a home for (once it reaches 5 weeks). I'm going to go check it out next week.

Outdoor cats are great. Ours is almost 15 years old. He's out most of the time in the summer, but indoors most of the winter.
